MLB is back – and it's off to a flying start

The wait is finally over. The MLB season is back in full swing, and with 162 games ahead of us, buckle up, it's going to be a long, intense, and sometimes chaotic journey.

For those who are a little new to baseball: the season is so long that teams fluctuate enormously in form, and that's exactly why the start can be worth it for those of us looking for games. The market needs time to settle, and this is often where we can be a little ahead.

And we don't get just any opening either.

San Francisco Giants – New York Yankees .
Two of the biggest clubs in MLB. Tradition, stardom and expectations, wrapped up in one game.

Giants – exciting, but how stable are they?

The San Francisco Giants enter the season with ambitions to take a step forward, and there are certainly things to like here. Offensively, they have players who can produce runs, and on good days, they can match most.

But the question is stability.

This is a team that has shown over time that its level can vary, and especially against the very best teams, they have tended to be a bit too uneven.

Starting on the mound is Logan Webb, a solid and reliable pitcher who often keeps the team in games. But against a team like the Yankees, who punish even small mistakes, this will be a completely different test than many of the games he is used to

Yankees – always expectations, always pressure

The Yankees are the Yankees. There's almost nothing more to say.

This is a team that always enters the season with the goal of winning and is usually also a team that the market has great faith in. Offensively, they are among the most dangerous in the league, and they don't need many chances before they hit the target.

Max Fried starts here, and although he too had a somewhat rusty end to spring training, this is a high-quality pitcher who rarely falls completely flat.

But what really gives the Yankees an advantage in this game is what comes next.

For those who don't follow MLB closely: games are often not decided by the starting pitcher alone. When he goes out, the bullpen takes over and here the Yankees have a clear edge. They have several reliable arms that can shut down games from the outside.

Battle picture – small margins, but clear direction

The start of the season means nerves, a little rust, and potentially a little chaos. That's completely normal.

But even with that in mind, it's hard to get away from the big picture here. The Yankees are simply a more complete team, better offensively, and with a clear advantage in the bullpen.

The Giants can certainly bite back, but over nine innings, the Yankees feel like the team that most often draws the longest straw.

Yankees ML (1.79) – 2 Units

We're keeping the stakes down a bit – it's the first game, after all, but the Yankees appear to be the stronger team overall.
