Messi show and historic triumph for Beckham's club
Lionel Messi delivered when it mattered most – again. With two assists, the Argentine led Inter Miami to the club's first MLS title, after a 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps in the final.
Messi dominated the final
It didn't take long for Messi to make his mark on the game. An early pass from the superstar forced an own goal, and Inter Miami took the lead. Vancouver responded, but after the break the quality took over: Rodrigo De Paul put the team up 2–1 after another Messi play, before Tadeo Allende decided the score in overtime – naturally after Messi's work.
Two assists, one trophy and another award to add to the collection: Messi was named the final's MVP.
From chaos club to champions
When Beckham launched the Inter Miami project, many laughed. Five years later, the club has won the Leagues Cup (2023), the Supporters' Shield (2024) and now the MLS Cup (2025).
In this year's playoffs, the team scored 20 goals, a new record in MLS history.
– "It's not just Messi. The whole team has grown around him," coach Gerardo Martino said after the match.
An era is born
For Miami, this is about more than a trophy. It's about credibility. The club has gone from a PR project to one of the continent's most impactful teams. And that with a 38-year-old maestro who still dictates the game.
Messi lifted the trophy in front of thousands of pink-clad fans at Chase Stadium.
“ We knew we could make history. Now we did it,” he said .
