Champions Cup semifinals don't come around often for MLS teams. Even rarer is one like this: undefeated Inter Miami travel to Vancouver, where a Whitecaps team in great form has made BC Place a fortress and the artificial turf their weapon.

On paper, it's the Florida stars who steal the headlines - and rightly so, with both Messi and Suárez on the scoresheet. But Vancouver has delivered performances that make this feel anything but David versus Goliath. These are two of the top teams in MLS right now - and both have very real ambitions to lift the trophy in the end.

But first there will be a fight. And it's unlikely to be pretty.

Vancouver – A team that believes in itself

It's been a long time since Vancouver was seen as a team that was "just in it". In the 2025 season they have not only been good - they have been rock solid. Six wins, two draws and only one loss so far in MLS. They are top of the Western Conference and have only conceded 6 goals in 9 games - and at home they are even closer.

A key factor has been their ability to control the tempo of the game – and make BC Place a difficult venue. The artificial turf gives them an advantage in pace and changes of direction, and their attacking wing play has ensured a steady flow of set pieces and corners.

Brian White, perhaps the league's most underrated forward, has been on fire: 10 goals so far - four of them coming in one game against Austin FC - and he's delivered in both the league and the Champions Cup. They knocked out both Monterrey and Pumas UNAM in earlier rounds, and the confidence is there.

Inter Miami – Messi is in, and with goals in mind

Inter Miami is always in the spotlight – and with stars like Messi, Suárez and Busquets, glamour and goals are expected. But what has really impressed in 2025 is how well this team actually works. They don't just rely on individual performances – they emerge as a team.

They have five wins and three draws in MLS, and in the Champions Cup they recently sent LAFC out after an intense quarter-final. Most recently they took a tactically strong 0-1 away win against the Columbus Crew, and that is exactly the type of match this could easily resemble. Miami controlled the ball, lay compact – and struck when the opportunity arose.

They have also shown a clear ability to create corners when they have to chase. Messi and Suárez are experts at attracting pressure and creating space on the wings, and this means that the full-backs often come in and get crosses. In the match against Columbus they were awarded a total of 9 corners, and that was no coincidence – it was the result of a game plan they master well.

Battle plan and tactical expectations

This is the first of two games – and that always sets the tone. Vancouver will be looking to get a result before they travel to Florida, and they know they have to put pressure on themselves at home. At the same time, they know that one away goal could be disastrous. Inter Miami, on the other hand, know that 0–0 or 1–1 is more than acceptable. They won’t rush forward, but they won’t lie low and wait either. They’ve controlled games like this before – and it’s often about taking over after the break.

Both teams have high corner production, and both have players who challenge one-on-one. That means clearances, blocks and, not least, set pieces.

Bet suggestions

CONCACAF At 04:30: Vancouver Whitecaps - Inter Miami: Inter Miami over 3.5 corners (1.74)

They have crossed this line in 6 of 8 MLS matches and have conceded 9 corners in the last one. Vancouver allows a lot of wing play and has been under pressure in several matches at home.

Alternative game:

Over 9.5 corners in total (1.95)

Vancouver will press high, Miami responds with direct play. This opens up a game with a high tempo and corner kicks in both directions – especially in the second half.
