After a first leg that had all the drama of a quiet Tuesday night, but with as few goals as a FIFA draw, the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final is now underway. This time, Tigres will be playing at home – and that may be just what they need to put their hopes up.

While LA Galaxy tried to survive in style in California, Tigres stormed in with possession, passing and chances – but no goals. Now it will all be decided at the Estadio Universitario, where Mexican teams traditionally do what Mexican teams want. And LA? They actually have something to show this time.

Tigres UANL: The fort in Monterrey is ready

Tigres traveled to Los Angeles and dominated as if they had paid the rent at BMO Stadium. With 514 completed passes to the Galaxy's 440 and a whopping 17 shots – four of them on goal – it was almost a minor football scandal that the game ended 0-0. Now that the game is being moved to their own backyard, it's hard to imagine them not taking control again.

Sure, they've gone three games without scoring – and yes, Gignac is still out – but there's still plenty of firepower in the ranks. Players like Sebastián Córdova, Luis Quiñones and the unstoppable Diego Lainez know where the goal is, and with the support of a crowd that's not exactly known for keeping their mouths shut, they should have plenty of chances.

Tigres also have a rare ability to step up in the important games. They don't like to leave things hanging in the air for too long, and know that home field advantage in this tournament is often crucial.

LA Galaxy: Low morale, high injury absences

It didn't look like the team in quarterfinal form we saw in the first game. Galaxy kept up, but also fell behind. Two shots on goal – at home – against a Mexican team that also played with a bit of a handbrake on, doesn't give us hope for great things in Monterrey.

As if that wasn't enough, the absence list is longer than the ticket queue when Messi is in town. Riqui Puig is not expected to be ready, Maya Yoshida and Reus are still suffering from stretch scares, and even the wing play has been tame with Gabriel Pec out.

They took an important win against Columbus in the last round – and they can surprise on a good day. But right now, there is little indication that this is one of those days. In terms of pace, structure and offensive combinations, the Galaxy are a step or two behind.

Conclusion: Tigres takes this – with or without fireworks

This is a game where things are boiling. Not necessarily on the scoring front, but in duels, punches and intensity. Tigres has the advantages: home field, dominance in the first game, and a history that suggests they know how to decide these matches.

Galaxy has to get in the ring. The only problem is that they can barely find the ring.

We expect a close game, but we don't believe in goal celebrations. Tigres have shown that they can control games – and with a little more precision than last time, they should be able to turn this to their advantage.
