Analysis of:
Seattle Sounders - Los Angeles FC

Analysis Information
It's early in the MLS season, but some trends are already starting to emerge. The Seattle Sounders have had a rocky start, taking just one point from their first two games, while LAFC are on a winning streak after their first two games. Both teams are considered playoff contenders, but while LAFC has been producing results – albeit unconvincingly – Seattle has been more scrappy.
This is a matchup between two teams with very different forms. Seattle needs to turn things around, while LAFC will be looking to continue their perfect start. The question is whether Seattle can find its former strength at home, or whether LAFC's defensive confidence and offensive quality will be too much for the hosts.
Seattle Sounders: Pressure mounts after weak start
Seattle has long been one of the most consistent clubs in MLS, but the start of the 2025 season hasn't gone as planned. After a 2-2 opening against Charlotte, where they both scored and conceded easy goals, a 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake left many questions unanswered. They have shown offensive tendencies, but also great difficulty defending against quick counterattacks.
At home at Lumen Field, they are usually a tough team to beat, but they haven't had the same defensive structure we're used to seeing from Brian Schmetzer's men. Jesus Ferreria has yet to open his league scoring account, and Jordan Morris, often the team's x-factor, has had a bit of a slow start. Meanwhile, Georgi Minoungou has struggled to control the game as effectively as before.
The Sounders have the talent to turn things around, but against an LAFC team that rarely gives up big chances, they'll need to be more efficient. If they concede as many as they did against Real Salt Lake, it could be a long night for the home crowd.
Los Angeles FC: Perfect start, but still room for improvement
LAFC have taken six points from a possible six, but it hasn't been dazzling attacking football that has secured their victories. Two 1-0 triumphs against Minnesota United and New York City show that Steve Cherundolo's team have become more cynical, but they have yet to find their footing offensively.
The most exciting thing for LAFC this season is the signing of Olivier Giroud, who is still waiting for his first MLS goal. The veteran was brought in to give LAFC the clinical striker they have been lacking at times, and this match could be a good time for him to open his scoring account. Along with Denis Bouanga and Timothy Tillman, they have the potential to be one of the best attacks in the league, but they will have to show more than they have in their first two league games
Defensively, LAFC has been rock solid. Hugo Lloris in goal has been a safety net, and the defense with Marlon and Eriq Zavaleta has done the job so far. But this will be a tough away game, and they will probably have to endure more pressure than they have faced so far this season.
Conclusion: Can Seattle bounce back at home, or will LAFC's strong start continue?
Seattle is not a team that tends to stay down for long, especially at home. Lumen Field has been a fortress for many years, but LAFC has the defensive stability that could make things difficult for the hosts.
At the same time, LAFC hasn't looked as sharp offensively as we know they can be, which gives Seattle an opportunity to fight back. One factor that speaks in favor of a goal is that the Sounders have shown defensive weaknesses, while also having attacking players who can cause trouble for LAFC's defense.
This could be an even match where both teams get their chances, and we envision a match where both teams will find out where the goal is.
