It's never dull around Manchester United. One minute everyone is talking about progress and morale, the next – about collapse and frustration. The defeat at home to Everton two weeks ago was a new low. Not just because it ended 0-1 at Old Trafford, but because United played the entire second half with ten men without creating more than a couple of half-chances. It was tame, static and embarrassing.

But Amorim got his answer against Crystal Palace. After a weak first half, the reaction he needed came: two goals in nine minutes, a tactical turnaround and a hint of optimism again. It is nevertheless symptomatic of United under Amorim – they are on the way, but far from stable.

Now West Ham awaits. A team that is in its own transitional phase – under a new coach, with unstable form and without its creative star.

Manchester United – the search for rhythm

Against Palace, the first half was anything but convincing, but the break changed everything.
Amorim moved Bryan Mbeumo higher, gave Joshua Zirkzee more freedom and allowed Mason Mount to run wild between the lines. Mount responded by deciding the match and being named man of the match. Fernandes put in another solid performance from deep, and United once again showed their ability to react when it really mattered.

Matheus Cunha is expected back from the minor injury that kept him out against Everton and Palace, but is likely to start on the bench. The Brazilian trained in full at the start of the week, and Amorim hinted that he is ready to step in.
For United, it is all about momentum now. After the Everton defeat, they need continuity – and that means victory, not just performance. Amorim's team have scored in both halves in five of their last ten and seem to have found a little more confidence in front of goal.

West Ham – new regime, old unpredictability

A lot has happened at the visitors.
After Nuno Espírito Santo took over as head coach, West Ham are trying to rebuild without losing their core. The results have been mixed. The loss to Liverpool last time out (0–2) revealed how much Lucas Paquetá means to the team. When the Brazilian was sent off, the structure completely collapsed.

Nuno has tried to tighten up the team defensively and make them more robust. The Hammers are actually among the teams in the Premier League that run the least, but win the second most defensive duels – a typical Nuno footprint: solidity and security first.
The problem lies up front on the pitch. With Niclas Füllkrug out and Paquetá suspended, much is left to Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse. They can deliver set-piece magic and counterattacks, but the team lacks creativity and fluidity in established attack.

At their best, West Ham are dangerous from set pieces – they average 1.7 big chances per game from such situations – but they also concede a lot. They have now conceded in both halves in five of their last ten games, and against teams like United, who pump in crosses and press, it is risky.

Match picture

This is likely to be a game where United will be in control. Amorim wants a high tempo, lots of possession and early pressure – especially after how the Everton game went. West Ham, on the other hand, will want to lie deep, close spaces and rely on set pieces and quick transitions. But without Paquetá, Nuno loses the natural link that holds the team together on the counterattacks, and then the pressure from United could be difficult to withstand over 90 minutes.

United have also shown that they are not immune from going behind. They give away chances, and with Bowen and Ward-Prowse on the pitch, West Ham can exploit almost any set piece. It means the game can quickly open up either way – just the way we like it.

Conclusion

A Manchester United that wants to show a new side.
A West Ham that is trying to rebuild under Nuno.
Two teams that are looking for security, but more often than not find chaos.

United have more quality and more momentum – but West Ham have the threats that make it unlikely they will leave the field goalless. We will have a game with energy, pace and chances. And most likely – goals at both ends.
