Fire – RB Salzburg 23.07.25

Analysis Information
There aren't many nights like this. Not in Bergen. Not in Norway. For the first time in almost 20 years, Brann is playing a game that could truly take them onto the biggest continental stage, and it's happening at home, at Brann Stadion, which this year has been more fast than a football pitch for most who have ventured here.
The opponent is not just anyone. RB Salzburg. Austrian powerhouse, Champions League routine, and a name that usually sounds scary in European cups. But in this case, in this match, Salzburg has chosen a bad time to meet Brann. Because the red shirts are not just good now. They are in fighting form, in the flow zone, and ready to bite.
Brann: A team in rhythm, with the city behind it
Four straight home wins. 3–1 over Viking. 15 shots per game. 1.7 goals on average. Brann has delivered. And what perhaps matters most right now: they are in the middle of the season. Unlike the Austrians, who are coming straight from vacation (and a failed Club World Cup), Brann is on the move – physically and mentally. They know who they are. And they know what to do.
It's not just about form. It's about playing style. Brann has high ball possession, high passing precision, and the ability to combine forward in space and width. It gives them chances, and it gives them pressure.
Salzburg: Big name, but out of rhythm
Red Bull Salzburg have been in the Champions League before, and it shows in their name. But the question is whether that will hold up in this phase. Because right now there is little indication that they are in balance.
They haven't played a single meaningful game in the Austrian league this season. The last time they did was play in the Club World Cup – where they drew 0-3 with Real Madrid, 0-0 with Al Hilal, and then lost to Derby County in the dress rehearsal. In three games, they scored two goals and conceded four. The goal conversion rate? A low six percent. That doesn't exactly speak to efficiency or confidence.
The numbers from the Club World Cup speak for themselves: only 0.7 goals per game, poor pass count, and a team that struggles to create clear-cut chances. Salzburg may not be bad, but they are certainly far from being in the top flight.
What can we expect?
I expect a match where Brann takes the initiative. Salzburg will try to control the tempo and be compact, but they could get a cold shower early. Because Brann starts as they usually do on home soil – offensively, directly and with plenty of energy. And when the home soil boils, there are few teams in Norway, and perhaps also abroad, who thrive.
This is a matchup that is all about timing. Brann is in the right place, at the right time. Salzburg is not.
