The Columbus Crew will be visited by one of the league's most in-form away teams, but on Sunday night it will happen when the Vancouver Whitecaps roll into Lower.com Field. Columbus has been struggling a bit lately, while Vancouver seems to have found the golden recipe – not only at home, but also on the road. Here, two teams meet that play with an offensive identity, that concede goals, and that allow space for exactly what we are looking for in tonight's game: goals, goals and more goals.

Columbus Crew: Struggling, but still attacking with intent

It's been a tough period for Columbus. After a solid start to the season, they have fallen into a six-game winless streak (0–4–2). The loss to Inter Miami last time out, where they were thrashed 5–1, hurt both their standings and their confidence.

But that doesn't mean this team has lost its offensive qualities. Columbus has still shown the ability to create chances, especially at home where they are far better than away. The team has scored in 67% of their home games and has a clear style of play that is all about quick combinations and width in attack.

The problem? They are leaking like a sieve backwards. Defensive absences, lack of form and individual errors have led to them conceding goals in almost every match. Knowing that they are facing a team that loves to counter-attack and is clinical in front of goal, there should be goals both ways in this match.

Vancouver Whitecaps: Brimming with confidence and sharp on the road

If Columbus has had a tough time, the mood in the Vancouver camp is the opposite. The Whitecaps lead the Western Conference, are unbeaten in their last seven away games in MLS, and have lost only one of their last 16 games overall. They have also found a wonderful balance in their game: defensively disciplined when needed, but lightning-fast and efficient when attacking. And they attack with confidence. Brian White has scored goals (10 goals), while Ryan Gauld contributes with creativity and breakthrough power. Vancouver has scored in almost every away game this season, and they have scored at least two goals in 60% of them. With Columbus' shaky defensive structure and the Whitecaps' offensive fluidity, there should be a high probability that the visitors will put at least two balls in the net here.

What can we expect?

I expect a game where Columbus will try to bounce back from the Miami loss and come out aggressive in front of their home crowd. But that's exactly what opens up the backfield, and then the Whitecaps will be ruthless in transition. When both teams have good offensive numbers and at the same time show defensive weaknesses, it's hard to imagine a positional war here. This has all the ingredients to be an open game with goals both ways - just the way we like it when we play on the upper lines.
