The trotting year 2025: Eirik Høitomt superb at the top

Another year in Norwegian trotting sport has been summarized, and the numbers speak for themselves: Eirik Høitomt consolidated his position as the country's leading jockey in 2025. With a total of 185 victories and over 14 million kroner in earnings, he became the undisputed leader of the season.

2025 was a year marked by both seasoned ring foxes and impressive efficiency. The statistics show a clear dominance from jockeys affiliated with Jarlsberg Trotting Track, who occupy the top three places and a total of five of the top ten positions nationwide.

Jarlsberg dominance at the top

Eirik Høitomt has had a busy season with 1352 starts. This resulted in a win percentage of 13.7% and a very strong placing percentage of over 40%. He is also the only driver this year to have won 10 million kroner in prize money by a good margin – in total he landed an impressive 14,193,500 kroner.

Behind him follow his stablemates from Jarlsberg:

  • Åsbjørn Tengsareid took a solid second place with 139 wins.
  • Vidar Hop secured third place with 123 first places and a strong winning percentage of 14.4%.

Frode Hamre

Although Høitomt won the most races overall, it is Frode Hamre who has the most impressive statistics. With “only” 294 starts – significantly fewer than his colleagues at the top – he drove to 84 victories.

This gives a completely unique winning percentage of 28.6% . This means in practice that Hamre won almost every third race he entered. His placing percentage of 57.1% is also in a class of its own among the top ten.

New faces and solid performances

It is also worth noting that young Marcus Totland Aadland, who won the Stallmansliga, is fighting his way into 9th place in this famous company. With a win percentage of 17.0%, he shows that he is a man for the future. Svein Ove Wassberg delivering consistently from his base in Bergen, and is the only one in the top five who does not have a connection to Eastern Norway.

Marcus Totland Aadland: In a class of its own among the stable employees

While Eirik Høitomt dominates the elite, there is no doubt who is the "heir to the throne" in Norwegian trotting sport. Marcus Totland Aadland delivered a season in 2025 that is unparalleled in the stable staff league.

With a total of 82 wins in 480 starts, Aadland has not only won his category, but he has also established himself as a driver that the big trainers now choose to use in the biggest races.

A superior victor

What is most impressive about Marcus Totland Aadland's statistics is the gap he has to his competitors. With 82 first places, he has more than three times as many wins as the next man on the list, Vidar Tjomsland.

Aadland has earned almost 3.2 million kroner, which is evidence that he is gaining confidence behind horses competing for the big prize pools. His win percentage of 17.1% shows a maturity and an ability to put the finishing touches on things that are rare for jockeys in this category.

The battle for the podium

Behind the dominant leader, there was a closer duel for the remaining podium places:

  • Vidar Tjomsland from Sørlandets Travpark secured second place with 25 wins. Tjomsland has a solid placing percentage of almost 40%, making him one of the most stable jockeys in Sørlandet.
  • Patrick Larsen (Bjerke) took third place with 23 wins. Larsen has distinguished himself as a very skilled driver who brings in a lot of money for the stables he drives for, with over 1.6 million won in 2025.

Efficiency from Rogaland

Although she is further down the list in terms of total wins, it is worth noting Maylen Lode from Forus. With only 25 starts, she has managed to win 5 races. This gives a winning percentage of an amazing 20% and a placing percentage of almost 50%. This shows a driver who really takes advantage of the opportunities when she first gets in the sulky.

Monté queen 2025: Martine Finsand

2025 was a very good year for the sport of dressage in Norway. While the competition in the sulky often steals the headlines, the riders under saddle have delivered results that testify to professionalism and efficiency. At the very top of the list we find Martine Finsand, who has delivered an exceptional season.

This year's statistics show that the best riders not only win often, but they are almost "guaranteed" to win the triple when they first start.

The season's supreme performer: Martine Finsand

With 22 wins in 68 starts, Martine Finsand from Sørlandets Travpark has been the season's winningest rider. What impresses most, however, is her consistency. A placing percentage of an incredible 69.1% means she finished on the podium in seven out of ten races she participated in.

With over 746,000 kroner earned by horse owners, she confirms her position as the country's leading dressage rider in 2025.

Top-class efficiency

Although Finsand won the most races, it is Kristine Kvasnes who can boast the highest win percentage among the top ten. The Biri rider won exactly every third race she entered ( 33.3% ). Kvasnes has long been one of the sport's leading figures, and the 2025 season was no exception with 18 wins in just 54 starts.

Geographical distribution

The statistics show that the sport of monté is strong all over the country. While Sørlandet and Biri dominate at the very top, we find strong athletes from both Bergen (Julie Mari Eikås Jenssen) and Forus (Eli Rosseland Salte and Line Barane) on the top list.

It is also worth noting Hege Kristin H. Sandbæk from Bjerke, who with 79 starts was the rider in the top 10 list who sat in the saddle the most times during the year. This resulted in a great third place overall.

Coaches League 2025: Frode Hamre in a class of his own

If there was any doubt about who reigns supreme in Norwegian trotting, it was swept aside in 2025. Frode Hamre crushed all opposition, set a historic milestone with his 3,000th trainer victory, and defended his position as the country's supreme trainer champion for the 14th year in a row.

While jockey statistics are often characterized by those who run the most races, trainer statistics are about the ability to get the horses in top shape for the right races. Here, the Hamre stable from Sandefjord is in a class of its own, both in terms of number of wins and prize money earned.

The magical 3,000 mark

The highlight of 2025 came on Monday, November 17th at Sørlandets Travpark. When driver Vidar Hop steered the stable horse Get Going to victory, it marked Frode Hamre's 3,000th trainer victory . He thus became the first trainer in Norwegian history to reach this magical number.

"It's the horse owners, the staff and the family who are the key. They are the ones who provide the motivation to take a new step every single season," said Hamre after the anniversary victory.

Dominance on all fronts

In 2025, the Hamre stable has delivered a winning percentage that most other trainers can only dream of. With a stable of around 70 horses, the team has managed to maintain an average where almost every fourth start ends in victory.

Behind the dominant leader, there is a fierce battle for the remaining positions on the podium:

  • Geir Vegard Gundersen (Stall Gundersen) continues to deliver at an extremely high level in the major vintage races, and is Hamre's closest challenger measured in winnings.
  • Kristian Malmin has solidified his position as one of the country's leading trainers from his base in Hønefoss, with an impressive breadth in his stable.
  • Øystein Tjomsland dominates the cold-blooded sport as usual, and in 2025 has largely supplied himself with the prize barrels in both Norway and Sweden.

Now the new year has begun, and it will be exciting to see if new names appear on the lists when we write the end of 2026.
