Preview: This weekend's matches in the Mizuno League

It is the last round of the regular season of the Mizuno League for the 2025-2026 season, and it has already been decided who will be relegated and who will have to play qualification to avoid relegation. At the top, however, there is still excitement until the last ball is hit, both on the women's and men's sides.

Thus we enter a very exciting final round in the Mizuno League 2025–2026. Several teams are fighting for the league title, while others are already looking towards the playoffs or qualification. Here is our advance analysis of this weekend's matches.

Women – Mizuno League Saturday March 21

Førde – NTNUI

Match time: 1:30 p.m

Førde goes into the weekend knowing that they can secure victory in the 2025–2026 Mizuno League if they do the job themselves in the last two games. With a 3–0 or 3–1 win against both NTNUI and Volda, Førde will remain as winners of the league. If they drop points, they will be dependent on other results going their way.

It has been a tough season for NTNUI, and they will finish last in the 2025–2026 Mizuno League. This means they can relax when they travel to Western Norway to play their last two matches against Førde and TIF Viking, without the great pressure on them.

Match analysis
Here, Førde is expected to take control from the start and set the tone early in the match. They will probably press hard in all phases of the game to prevent NTNUI from getting into a rhythm. At the same time, it is likely that Førde will want an effective match, preferably a 3–0 win, considering that they will meet Volda the next day in the last match of the regular season.

Prediction: Førde wins 3–0

Randaberg – Øksil

Match time: 2:00 PM

Randaberg is in 6th place before the last round of this year's Mizuno League with 17 points. They have the opportunity to climb one place in the table if they win against Øksil, while Oslo Volley loses against Koll on Sunday. This means Randaberg still has something to play for in the last league match of the season. They have won four of their last five matches and can build on their good form towards the quarter-finals in the playoffs.

Øksil enter the round in 4th place and know that they only need one point from this weekend's two away games to be absolutely sure of a home game in the playoffs. They have won three of their last five games, and the two losses have both come after even 2–3 matches. Øksil also has a good hold on Randaberg, with victories in the last three head-to-head matches.

Match Analysis
This could easily be an even and exciting match that goes to five sets. Both teams have shown good serving skills, which will put their receiving game to the test. The team that is most successful in receiving and manages to stabilize the game under pressure will probably draw the longest straw.

Prediction: Axeman wins 3–2

Men's - The Mizuno League Saturday 21 March

Førde – NTNUI

Match time: 4:00 PM

Førde is in 1st place with the same number of points as BK Tromsø, but with a better set difference. This means Førde can decide the Mizuno League all by themselves this weekend by winning 3–0 or 3–1 against NTNUI – and at the same time take revenge after the cup final loss against BK Tromsø in January.

Førde are already ready for the Final Four at home after Easter, which gives both the home fans and the city a lot to look forward to. If all goes well, we may also see players from Førde's U19 team – who recently won the NM U19 in Volda – get their chance on the pitch this weekend.

NTNUI, on the other hand, must prepare for qualifying games to keep their place in the Mizuno League after Easter. The trip to the West Coast therefore gives them a good opportunity to build performance and create momentum before the decisive matches. As always with NTNUI on the road, it will also be exciting to see which players they have in the squad.

Match Analysis
I expect Førde to come out and control the match from the start, with an aggressive serve pressure to put NTNUI out of the game on offense. For NTNUI, it's about standing up to the pressure from a hungry Førde team that has everything to win – and a lot to lose – in this match. If NTNUI can stand up to it, they could keep it even and maybe sneak in a point, but that seems unlikely.

Prediction: Førde wins 3–0

Koll – Axe

Match time: 4:00 PM

Koll are in 3rd place and will look to maintain this position after this weekend's round. The match gives them a good opportunity to further improve their form before the quarter-finals at home after Easter.

Øksil are in 6th place with 18 points before their last two matches in the Mizuno League this season. They still have a chance to climb all the way to 4th place if results go their way this weekend. Should that happen, they will secure home field advantage in the quarter-finals.

Match analysis
The teams met a month ago in Øksneshallen, where Øksil won 3–1 in an even match. Koll did not field their strongest team then, and there is reason to believe that they are looking for revenge this time. Koll is also known for being strong at home, where they often field their best line-up. Therefore, this could be a tougher task for Øksil than it was last time.

Prediction: Koll wins 3–1

BK Tromsø – Randaberg

Match time: 4:00 PM

BK Tromsø is in 2nd place with the same number of points as league leader Førde. The only thing that separates the teams is the difference in goals. This means that BK Tromsø is dependent on help from NTNUI – who will face Førde on the same day – if they are to have a chance of winning the 2025–2026 Mizuno League, provided they do the job themselves.

The match is also important for Randaberg. They still have the opportunity to climb from 5th to 4th place if they take three points, while TIF Viking loses this weekend.

Match analysis
In the previous meeting, Randaberg won the first set 26–24, but from there on BK Tromsø took full control and eventually won 3–1 after clear set scores. Tromsø are also favorites this weekend, in what will be their last home game in Tromsøhallen before the hall is renovated and rebuilt.

We can expect a Randaberg team that varies in performance, but if they reach their peak level, they have the qualities needed to give BK Tromsø a good match.

Prediction: BK Tromsø wins 3–1

Women – Mizuno League Sunday March 22

TIF Viking – NTNUI

Match time: 12:30 PM

TIF Viking is in 2nd place before the weekend and still has a chance to win the Mizuno League. However, they are dependent on both Førde and Koll scoring points in the last round, while they have to do the job themselves against NTNUI. TIF Viking has not been as dominant this season as last year, and that has put them in a more uncertain situation. There is also a possibility that they will have to play the quarterfinals to qualify for the Final Four after Easter.

NTNUI has already been in action against Førde the day before, and comes to this match after a tough start to the western tour.

Match analysis
TIF Viking enter the match as clear favorites. It is difficult to imagine them losing to NTNUI, but they still need to be fully geared up to avoid messing things up. NTNUI can be dangerous if they gain confidence and take advantage of the opportunities that arise.

Prediction: TIF Viking wins 3–0

Oslo Volleyball – Koll

Match time: 2:00 PM

Oslo Volley are in 5th place with 19 points, but risk falling to 6th place if results go against them this weekend. They therefore enter this Oslo derby with a clear goal of securing at least one point.

Koll tops the table before the last round on the women's side of the Mizuno League. If they win 3–0 or 3–1, they will still be dependent on Førde scoring points in their matches to secure the league title. Koll has won four of their last five matches and is in good form heading into the final.

Match analysis
The key in this Oslo derby will be whether Oslo Volley can withstand the pressure from the start. Koll is known for setting a high tempo and controlling the game early. If they succeed in that, it could be a tough match for Oslo Volley. Koll's form and pace could be decisive in a match that could quickly become both intense and entertaining.

Prediction: Koll wins 3–0

Volda – Førde

Match time: 4:00 PM

Volda still has a theoretical chance of relegation, but it seems unlikely considering NTNUI's tough match schedule this weekend. For Volda, it is primarily about mobilizing for the qualifying matches after Easter, where they will fight to keep their place in the Mizuno League.

If Førde does the job against NTNUI the day before, they will enter this match with the league title in their hands. That gives them everything to play for – but also a lot to lose.

Match analysis
There is excitement about how Førde will come out in this match, especially considering the strain from the match the day before. This is also a match that many will be watching closely, as other teams are hoping that Volda can take points from Førde. Volda has shown in the past that they can challenge the top teams, and could make this a more even match than the table suggests.

Prediction: Førde wins 3–1

Men - Mizuno League Sunday 22 March

OSI – Axe

Match time: 11:00 AM

Thanks for this season, OSI. They opened with a bang by winning 3–0 at home against Randaberg in the first game of the season, but were never able to build on that start. The results throughout the season have not been good enough, and it unfortunately ends with relegation from the Mizuno League.

Øksil still have something to play for in this match, depending on what they take away from the match against Koll the day before. Points there will make this match even more important in the fight for positions and possible home field advantage in the playoffs.

Match analysis
Here we can get an OSI team that wants to end the season with honor intact and “go down with the flag to the top”. The question is whether they can mobilize enough to take a victory. It is certainly possible, but a lot will depend on what Øksil has to play for in the match. Therefore, this is a match that is a little difficult to predict.

Prediction: Axeman wins 3–2

TIF Viking – NTNUI

Match time: 3:00 PM

TIF Viking is in 4th place before the final round of the season in the Mizuno League. It has been a tough season, both in the series and in the cup, especially in light of their victory in the Final Four last season. However, the season is not over, and they are well placed to secure home field advantage in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. TIF Viking is also known for being a team that is difficult to beat when it really matters.

NTNUI comes into this match after a match and a trip from Førde to Bergen the day before, which may affect their performance.

Match analysis
The teams met a month ago, when TIF Viking won 3–1 in a match characterized by large fluctuations from both teams. We could soon get a similar match picture here as well. An important question is which squad NTNUI will field, which makes the match difficult to predict with complete precision.

Prediction: TIF Viking wins 3–1
