Women's quarter-final in the Mizuno League playoffs

Koll – Randaberg

Match time is at 13:00 on Saturday and Sunday in Kringsjåhallen

Koll finished in 3rd place after a dramatic final round in the Mizuno League. They messed up against Oslo Volley after leading 2–0, and for a long time it looked like they had secured 2nd place and a direct spot in the Final Four. However, Oslo Volley managed to fight back and take two sets, which means that Koll now has to play the quarterfinals at home against Randaberg.

Randaberg had a terrible start to the 2025–2026 Mizuno League, with five straight losses, and thus found themselves in a position they had not been in for many years. Nevertheless, they have impressed by turning it around, and have achieved several good results that mean that they will now play in the quarter-finals against a very strong Koll team.

What are we up to in these two quarter-final matches?

The teams have met twice this season, and both games have ended in a 3–0 victory for the home team. It is worth remembering that Koll fielded a very reduced team away against Randaberg, which was a major factor in their failure to take anything away from that game.

Koll's leading scorer this year is Selma Tryggestad, with 11.6 points per game. She is also the most effective offensive player in the match between Koll and Randaberg this weekend. This means Randaberg will have a big task of stopping her in the blocking and defensive game. At the same time, Randaberg will probably struggle with the fact that Koll is a more complete team, with more strings to play on.

Still, Koll can't take the task lightly. Randaberg has players who can make it difficult, especially Kaia Markhus, who is averaging 15.9 points per game. Randaberg is dependent on her performing at a high level if they are to have a real chance of reaching the Final Four.

I still believe that Koll will win this doubles match in the quarterfinals and secure a spot in the Final Four next weekend.

Prediction: Koll wins 3-1 on Saturday and Sunday

Axe – Oslo Volly

Match time: 16:00 Saturday and 12:00 Sunday in Øksneshallen

Øksil finished 4th in this year's Mizuno League, and they were also in the final of the cup, where they lost 0–3 to Førde in January. This gives Øksil home field advantage in the match against Oslo Volley. As I have mentioned several times throughout the Mizuno League season, Øksil has the best home fans, who contribute with energy and create a fantastic atmosphere.

Oslo Volley finished 5th in this year's Mizuno League after a season of mixed performances. They finished the season quite well, with points against both Koll and Øksil, and a comfortable 3–0 home win against Volda.

What do we get in these two quarterfinal matches?

Here we will see an Øksil team that goes all out to dominate from the start. It helps to have the Mizuno League's best point picker on the team in Ragni Steen Knudsen, with 22.4 points per game. So far, almost no team has been able to stop her in the blocking and defense game, and I can't see Oslo Volley being able to do that either. The only possibility is if Oslo Volley has a fantastic serving day, which can help stop Øksil in these quarterfinal games. At the same time, Vilde Hagen must continue to perform with her 14.5 points per game for Oslo Volley to have a real chance this weekend.

I think this could be a more even match in Øksneshallen than many in the north are hoping for. We could have two close matches, where key players will be of great importance, and individual moments can create momentum that will be decisive for which team advances.

Prediction: Øksil wins 3-2 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday.

Men's quarter-final in the Mizuno League playoffs

TIF Viking – Axe

Match time: 15:00 Saturday and 13:00 Sunday in Åsane Arena

TIF Viking finished 4th in this year's Mizuno League and have delivered a consistent and solid season. They have performed well against the top teams, but have perhaps been a little unlucky in some of the even matches. This weekend they have home field advantage in the quarter finals against Øksil, which could be an important factor.

Øksil took 5th place, only four points behind this weekend's opponent. It is also important to remember that Øksil had a tough start to the season, partly because Mathias Loftesnes was away on an adventure abroad in India. After he returned, the team has improved significantly and now appears to be a much tougher opponent.

What do we get in these two quarterfinal matches?

Everything is set for two intense and even matches, where both teams will do everything they can to secure a place in the Final Four in Førde next weekend. The teams have met twice this season, and both times the home team has won 3–0. This suggests that home field advantage could play an important role this time as well.

For TIF Viking, it will be crucial that Erik Bjelland continues to deliver at the high level he has shown throughout the season, with 14.6 points per game. The question is whether Øksil will be able to stop him again, as they did on home soil a month ago. At the same time, it will be exciting to see if Mathias Loftesnes can lead Øksil to the Final Four in what looks to be his “last dance”, after he has announced that this is his last season at the top level in Norway.

I think Øksil will make this very difficult for TIF Viking, and we could soon have a quarter-final that lives up to the last ball.

Prediction: Øksil wins 3-2 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday.

Koll – Randaberg

Match time: at: 16:00 Saturday and at 16:00 Kringsjåhallen

Koll finished in 3rd place in this year's Mizuno League. It has been a long season for this year's Koll team, who also participated in European games for the first time. There they performed very well and were only one golden set away from advancing.

Randaberg has, as usual, had a rollercoaster of a season. They started with a 0–3 loss away to OSI, before later showing that they can perform at a high level against the top teams. In the end, they finished in 6th place in this year's Mizuno League.

What do we get in these two quarterfinal matches?

Koll at home is incredibly difficult to beat, and they are fielding their strongest squad. With Jakub Intrys, who averages 16.4 points per game, and a team that delivers well collectively, Koll appears to be a very complete team that maintains a high level. It is expected that Koll will go hard from the start this weekend.

For Randaberg, it's about being able to stand up to pressure. Players like Henrik Kaldheim, with 13.2 points per game, must deliver at their best. As a team, Randaberg must also be cynical and seize opportunities when they arise. If they can recreate some of the play they showed away against Koll before Christmas, we could have two very entertaining volleyball games in Kringsjåhallen.

Still, I think Koll will be too strong for Randaberg, especially with home field advantage as an important factor.

Prediction: Koll wins 3–1 on Saturday and 3–0 on Sunday.
