Trotting history
Kajsa Frick made trotting history on Sunday when she took her 1000th victory as a jockey – a milestone no woman has previously reached in Swedish or Nordic trotting. The anniversary victory was recorded at Gävle, when she guided the 3.5-odds Dania Gel to victory.
Trotting background in the blood
Frick is a Swedish trotting jockey and trainer, born into the trotting sport as the daughter of Leif Witasp and niece of Jim Frick. She is one of Sweden's most high-profile female jockeys and runs her own business from Rättvikstravet in Dalarna. She has also won the Jockey Championship at Romme
She runs her own stable and has trained a number of high-profile horses over the years. On her official website, kajsafrick.se, she regularly shares updates about the stable's horses, training and results.
Tactical masterpiece brought cheers
Sunday's victory came after a tactical and controlled race, as the public knows Frick best. With precise driving and calmness at crucial moments, she was able to cross the finish line first and secure her place in the history books, to great cheers from the crowd on the racetrack.
– It's hard to put this into words. I've been working towards this goal for many years, and to reach it now means an incredible amount, said a clearly moved Frick after the race.
Over 20 years as a top profile
Kajsa Frick obtained her professional trainer's license in 2003 and has since been a prominent figure in Swedish trotting. She has combined the roles of trainer and active jockey throughout her career, competing against – and beating – some of the sport's biggest names.
Today, she still runs her own stable with several horses in training. She is known for developing horses patiently and purposefully, often with more limited resources than the largest stables.
A crossroads for trotting
Trotting has long been a male-dominated sport, but Frick's 1,000th victory marks a clear turning point and has great symbolic value for future generations of female jockeys and trainers.
The story is far from over
With the milestone reached, the question is not whether Kajsa Frick will win more races – but how far she can still push the boundaries in an already historic career.
