Bodø/Glimt have written a new, golden chapter in Norwegian football history. On Wednesday night, they beat Atlético Madrid themselves 2–1 at the Metropolitano – an arena where they rarely win – and are ready for the round of 16 in the Champions League.
After an even and intense match, it was Kasper Høgh who decided with a left-footed gem after 59 minutes. The rest was a yellow wall of discipline, calm and courage – and seven endless minutes of overtime before the jubilation could be unleashed.
As the home crowd booed in shock, the Glimt bench stormed the pitch. This wasn't just a victory. It was a European show of strength from a team that refuses to acknowledge its limitations.
The adventure continues
Right-back Fredrik Sjøvold, who was also responsible for the equalizer, put it all into words with a smile to TV 2 afterwards:
– I had actually booked a trip to Gran Canaria. It will probably have to be cancelled now.
Because Glimt is moving on. Now either Real Madrid or Inter are waiting. The adventure lives on.
