Wolverhampton are the Premier League's worst football team. There is no debate. Wolves are a shadow of themselves, and as of now they seem to be standing with both one foot and a couple of fingers firmly planted in the Championship. If the Wolves continue on this track, several almost unbeatable records will be set in the Premier League, with a negative sign. Manchester United are both high and low. One win in the last five in the league, with several hair-raising performances, most recently against West Ham, as one of the low points. Before that came a very strong away win against Crystal Palace. Not easy to make sense of this 2025/2026 edition of the Red Devils.

Wolverhampton – Is there hope?

No. It doesn't seem that way. They have managed the feat of not scoring a single goal in their last five league games. All of them have been lost, of course. In fact, the last eight have been lost. When was the last win in the Premier League? Well, it hasn't come yet. Fourteen games out, and two draws is all they have to beat the table with. That would suggest two poor points. Scary that it's possible at this level.

The injury situation has not helped either, nor the player logistics. The good players you actually had left for Manchester, both red and blue, and as if by snapping your fingers you were a gray mass left. As of today, there is very little about this team that entices people to play. You have scored seven goals in the 14 games of the season, and conceded 29. These are numbers that are synonymous with relegation, nothing else.

Oddly enough, they have won the last two against Manchester United. Statistics are strange in that sense. However, this year's edition stands out negatively, and we consider the home team's chances far less this time.

Manchester United – Caught somewhere in between

Because it really is one step forward, one step back for this year's United team. Beating Palace on their own turf is a tremendous achievement, but then they crash-landed to such an extent against West Ham. A miserable match, where no one showed up for work. The great legends were queuing up after the final whistle to break the team, and were unanimous that they had hit rock bottom again. It's not easy being Ruben Amorim these days.

So what can we expect here then? The chances of three points are still greater, all the while Wolves are as bad as they actually are. The home team does not score goals, and has an almost non-existent xG, so here United can largely focus fully on their own attacking play. A United team that dares to let loose still has the qualities to punish dizzy, emaciated, Wolves.

Sesko is out, but Cunha is playing football again. The Brazilian is often involved in what is happening offensively, and it fits well in that it is precisely this man who will punish former teammates. That is how it usually is. Mount will perhaps get a role in the attack together with the aforementioned Cunha, while Mbeumo will take the other wing. This alone should be enough to go home with three points in the bag.

Conclusion – Which statistics are wrong?

Because, will Wolves take their third straight win against United, or will they actually get a hole in the boil, and end a long and painful streak of goalless draws? If you want to win the game on Monday, I think you simply have to pull a black and yellow jersey over Cunha's head before you enter the pitch. Because this team has not scored goals this season.

Seven goals scored in fourteen matches means one goal every other match. These are absolutely crazy numbers. You bang your head against the wall and can't find the offensive constellations. When you also concede as many goals as you actually do, this life is not made for you. The self-confidence in the squad must be like dew before the sun.

Manchester United have to win another game now. I think they will. These are the games here, with plenty of space, that every footballer wants to play. United's attacking players will get their chances, and over the course of 90 minutes that ball will end up in the net, that's almost guaranteed. United win, and Amorim gets another night of something resembling good sleep. What about Wolves? Well, this will probably be a goalless affair. The numbers say so.
