Analysis of:
Valur – Stjarnan 01-07-2025

Analysis Information
What happens when two teams with the same playing style meet for a match? Valur will host the blue-clad Stjarnan. I think we have found an exciting match that will contain a lot of speed and excitement, and not least good opportunities to earn a few kroner.
Valur – Title contenders in the shadow of the favorites
After a failed attempt to secure the title of best team in Besta Deildin last year, Valur is now back with one goal: to become Iceland's best team. After the matches the home team has played so far, I can honestly say: Breidablik and Vikingur need to watch out. Valur are quietly working in the shadows, waiting to strike when they least expect it.
In their 13 games, the Reds are now 7-3-3 and 35-19 in goal difference, which is equivalent to an average of 4.1 goals per game. Valur actually leads the scoring statistics with a whopping 11 goals in difference – and for good reason. I haven't seen anything like it in a long time; the home team has become like Iceland's little Barcelona from Temu. With 6-1 and 5-2 in their last two games, they have shown how dangerous they can be offensively, and with a small adjustment defensively, the Reds smell like a league title.
But this will not be an easy match. In this match they will face the team I usually compare Valur to. Still, I am keeping a button on Valur in this match, because their form lately beats most teams. With top scorer Patrick Pedersen (12 goals) and Tryggvi Haraldsson (6 goals) on the team, I think Valur will create enough chances for more goals against the guests. The hosts have scored at least one goal in their last ten matches – that makes me significantly more confident that this will go our way.
Stjarnan – Underdogs with gunpowder in front of goal
The guests, dressed in blue, have many similarities to the home team as described above. Aggressive and powerful in front of goal, but with weaknesses defensively in their back ranks. I am impressed by Stjarnan's attacking play, but they are hardly title contenders in my eyes. There is a big difference in the structure between the teams at the top and bottom of the Besta Deildin, and I would say that Stjarnan fluctuates between these levels. They are neither at the top nor at the bottom, but have good qualities that are shown occasionally.
In their 13 matches, the Blues have a 0 goal difference – they have actually scored and conceded the same number of goals. The team has played 6-2-5, with a 24-24 goal difference, which gives an average of 3.7 goals per match. Players worth mentioning are the following: Orvar Eggertsson (5 goals), Benedikt Waren (4), and Emil Atlason (4). The guests have qualities both in attack and in midfield, with Benedikt Waren and Nokkvason both having 4 assists. But they still lack a “tiger” in goal, because keeping a clean sheet in only two of thirteen matches is not good enough.
We can't help but mention the previous meeting between these teams – it actually ended in favor of Stjarnan. It was the away team that came out on top with three points in their pocket. The score ended 3-2 to Stjarnan, with action throughout the match, and a Valur player ended up in quarantine after a red card. I don't think it will be as easy for Stjarnan to secure victory against the red-clad team tonight, but they have enough qualities to pull off the victory.
Summary – Game Selection
Tonight we will be served a lot of gunpowder in front of goal in the form of two attacking teams that will send all their forces forward in the field to create goal-threatening chances. I believe in another goal-rich meeting between the teams, and I also think it will be a home win for Valur. Make some own assessments and choose a bet based on that. Both teams will probably score, but we think the home team will score the most. And when the bookmakers dump the odds on goals, we choose the following bet;
Iceland 21:30: Valur - Stjarnan: Valur wins (1.83)
