V85 Halmstad on March 7th offers an interesting round with several clear favorites – but also some exciting tactical showdowns. We choose to play a little offensively this time and knock both A Fair Day, Arnie Silvio and Ideal Stone, while several of the other races can offer even duels and opportunities for value. 3 Riverdale Z. began her career with six straight wins before the streak was broken. Since then, her career has not been completely straight forward, but there is little doubt about her capacity for the class. In her recent comeback – her first start since April – Conrad Lugauer sat calmly and enjoyed herself at the back of the field before the mare finished well in the end. Now she will also start without shoes. With the best possible balance and normal development from here on, she can deliver towards her high top level, and if she can decide at the front, it could quickly be a close one.

5 Betting Pacer is the one in the field with the best track record and is as usual well placed in the race. She has beaten considerably better opposition than this on several occasions throughout her career, and in terms of sheer capacity she is in a class of her own in this small field. She comes from a passable effort at V85 last time. She has only tested the long distance once before, but a short and probably somewhat tactical race may mean that the distance will not be so important this time. A clear plus is that Carl Johan Jepson is in the sulky; the duo have had good results together in the past.

1 Wannabe Zaz. After over a year on the sidelines, he delivered the goods directly and easily won the last race in effortless style. The race should have done well after the long stay, and the five-year-old could easily be even sharper this time. His career has been a bit of a struggle so far, but there is little doubt about his capacity, and if he stays injury-free, he could have a great season ahead. From this point of view, it is difficult to see anyone taking the long way on him from the start, a natural first choice.

7 Star Brigadoon has reached the age of five, but still has only four starts in his career – all of which have ended in victory. Each time he has also found his way to the lead, but from track seven behind the car it will be much more difficult to reach the favorite position this time. Örjan Kihlström up in the sulky is a clear plus, but if the horse has to do the rough work outside the leader, the task may become considerably tougher. The capacity is obvious, but the conditions mean that victory is unlikely to be as obvious as before.

2 A Fair Day Sweden's darling. The build-up to the Eliteloppet has begun. In his debut of the year he was brilliant when, despite a tough journey, he crushed the leading Stens Rubin in the end. In terms of capacity, the gelding is in a class of his own here, and compared to opponents like Francesco Zet, this is a far easier task. Everything points to a close finish, and he can win this from almost any position. One of the clearest V85 bankers . Wins this!!

12 Satsuma has been given an interesting task on paper. The Untersteiner mare has been up against very tough opposition recently, but is now going down a notch in class. This is a horse that is often at its best when she gets a back run and things are served along the way, which could be possible here too if Peter Untersteiner finds the right backs. Shoeless  all around is also a clear plus variant. In an even match where the opposition is not particularly intimidating, she can certainly be in the fight for victory with a little flap along the way.

9 Global Empress could be the toughest challenger to her stablemate. The six-year-old filly has been performing solidly lately. Now she is going up a notch in resistance. Early cross in open race.

7 Love Me AF showed nice style in her win at Axevalla last time and is also in good form this time. She will also be shoeless for the first time in her career , which makes her extra interesting. We think it gives the horse an extra edge.

1 Clean Table is an exciting six-year-old from the stable of Johan Untersteiner . He has had some challenges with his legs, but this has now been fixed, and he has really found his form and now has four straight wins – still undefeated under Untersteiner. The latest triumph came from the lead. Last time he also showed good starting speed even from track eight behind the starting car, and from track one this time there is much to be gained for an offensive approach. However, there are several fast ones here, but I think the chances of the lead are good. Should be the favorite in the race.

3 Home Safe is chasing his fifth straight win and looks set for an exciting future. The four-year-old seems to have a lot going for him, and here he is also being tested with an American cart for the first time – which could lift the action even further. The gelding is also quick from the start, and should Lugauer succeed in snatching the lead, his chances of victory increase significantly.

4 Maroon Day is a very capable horse from the stable of Elisabeth Almheden . Ref our banker A Fair Day . The six-year-old has made two starts after the break this year and won both, and last time he was served the lead before easily controlling the race from there. This time, however, the task may be tougher, and the same luxury run in the lead is far from a guarantee. Here the Maharajah son will probably have to do more of the heavy lifting himself, and then he may have to confess his color against several sharp opponents in an open showdown. In any case, the capacity is so high that he must be considered a winner , but this is hardly an obvious banker - but a clear favorite in my eyes,

2 Makalu Doc is a hardened trotter who often makes solid runs. Last time he benefited from a high pace along the way, was able to sneak in the backs and easily won in the end after a strong finish. The six-year-old also showed three starts ago that he can open very quickly behind the starting car, and Ulf Ohlsson probably knows that a lot of the chance of winning lies in being offensive from the start. If he manages to get there early and perhaps catch up with the fiercest competitor, a lot can be done. At the same time, the task can be tough if he has to do the heavy lifting himself.

12 Arnie Silvio comes from the stable of Johan Untersteiner , who has his horses in top form. The Maharajah son showed the capacity he has in him last time when he took a very impressive victory, and when he stays fully focused, the five-year-old has a wonderful attitude towards the competition. Now he will also be without shoes again, which has previously lifted his performances. The starting position in track twelve behind the starting car is of course anything but ideal, but the long distance suits him well. With the right race development and an offensive plan from Untersteiner, he can advance early, and then the competitors should be good to resist over the run. We are playing a bit tough today, and are playing banks even from chip 12.

4 Ideal Stone looks like a real winning machine and has a great task ahead of him here. He defended himself strongly to win last time out and showed again that his form is in place. The plan is probably to try to get to the front this time too. Now he will also be an American cart for the first time , which could give him an extra effect and make him even more effective. If he can control the race at the front it could be difficult for his rivals to beat him. We end the round with another knocker.
