Finally, we are at the big final day of the Women's Volleyball World Championship. After two intense weeks in Thailand , Turkey and Italy ready to fight for the world championship title. These are two of the absolute strongest teams on the women's side right now - and everything is set for a truly magical final.

Turkey W – plays on mood and flow

Turkey went through the group stage undefeated, winning all their matches 3–0. In the round of 16, they faced Slovenia, who had only just advanced after a 3–0 win over Argentina. Turkey was expected to triumph easily – and the result was 3–0. However, the set scores tell a slightly different story: 30–28, 25–13 and 29–27.

In the quarter-finals and semi-finals, we saw the Turkish women pick up the pace, find their rhythm and play with great spirit. The reward was solid 3-1 victories in both matches. Now Italy awaits, coming into the final with an impressive streak of 35 straight wins without a loss.

Italy W – 36 straight wins without a loss?

Italy has been the absolute best women's national team in recent years and is now on a 35-game winning streak. They also won the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, and in the World Cup they had only lost one set up until the semi-finals – a minor work accident against Belgium.

The semi-final against Brazil, however, was anything but easy. Sarah Fahr sprained her ankle during the warm-up, and Alessia Orro also had to leave with an ankle injury in the middle of the first set. As if that weren't enough, Italy lost the first set 22–25.

They fought back 25–22 in the second set, but Brazil took the third 30–28 after a dramatic finish. Italy tied it again 25–22 in the fourth, before finally deciding the match in a thrilling fifth set – 15–13.

How much is Italy W out after this dramatic semi-final against Brazil W?

Conclusion

We go into this World Cup final knowing that Italy is coming off a far more dramatic path than Turkey, having to see two key players go down with injuries in the semi-final, and also having to fight through one of the most dramatic five-set matches of the year to beat Brazil.

The big question is whether Turkey can carry the spirit and fluidity they showed in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals. If they do, they could really put Italy to the test.

My bet for the final is Turkey +1.5 handicap. Italy is weak, while the Turkish women look fired up and have a clear momentum in the team right now. It could be tough for Italy to resist.
