The Genesis Invitational 2025

Analysis Information
It's time for another exciting golf tournament on the PGA Tour. This time it's The Genesis Invitational, a new Signature tournament where only those who have earned the right to play are allowed to play. To be allowed to play here, you have to have played so well in the past that you have qualified. The Genesis Invitational was originally supposed to be played at The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, but because of all the wildfires that were raging there, it was moved to Torrey Pines' South Course in San Diego. And for those of you who followed the Farmers Insurance Open, it was played on the same course that will now be played, except that now only the South Course will be used and not both. The South Course is the more difficult course of the two at Torrey Pines, but most of the field is well-known here from the Farmers and previous editions of the US Open, so they know what they are up against.
The courses and the area
Torrey Pines' South Course was built in 1957 and restored in 2001 by Rees Jones to prepare it for the 2008 US Open. The course was extended and made more challenging, with narrow fairways, thick rough and demanding green areas. During The Genesis Invitational, it is played as a Par 72 and is one of the longest on Tour at 7,765 yards. The thickest rough can be higher than 10cm, and the greens are as high as 13 on the Stimpmeter, so that indicates very hard and fast greens! The course is one of the most iconic golf courses in the United States and is used every year for the Farmers Insurance Open, but the US Open has been held here in both 2008 and 2021, and now The Genesis Invitational will be played here. If you were one of those who watched the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this year, you probably noticed holes 3 and 12 that are wonderfully located out towards the Pacific Ocean. These are holes where it is important to hit the green, otherwise the ball can quickly become very wet.
There are only 72 players in the field, 29 of whom played in the Farmers Insurance Open, and even though there are so few players who get to play The Genesis Invitational, they have chosen to have a Cut after two days. The top 50, or everyone up to 50th place and tied for 50th place, will be in the weekend game and fight for victory in the end.
Rain and southerly winds are forecast for Thursday and perhaps Friday morning, while the sun will take over for the weekend. The reports also indicate that it may rain most throughout Thursday and into Friday night. So it would be wise for us to look back at who played good golf on the South Course in the wind during the Farmers Insurance Open, as well as see who is playing when. If the weather forecast is correct, the earliest possible start on Thursday and the latest possible start on Friday will be most favorable. In addition, statistics on Driving Distance, Driving Accuracy, GIR and Putting would be a good idea to check out.
Considering the information I have available, and the above, I have the following two tips:
Golf bet 1: Taylor Pendrith top 20 (1.95)
We've covered Taylor Pendrith before, and considering how he did in the wind at the Torry Pines South Course during the Farmers Insurance Open in January where he finished 7th, he's one of our picks again. He also played very well in the wind at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he finished 9th. Pendrith is ranked in the following rankings under these statistics; Driving Distance (5th place), Driving Accuracy (25th place), GIR (2nd place) and Putting (128th place) which is his weakest point this year. During the Farmers he was in the middle of the field in the putting statistics, so slightly better there than his average this year. He's also very good at avoiding bogey, which is of course an advantage. Pendrith seems to thrive on this course, with three top 20 finishes out of four starts in the Farmers Insurance Open. In addition, he tees off as the third trio for the day, which is why I believe in another top 20.
Golf game 2: Sepp Straka top 20 (2.25)
Sepp Straka has been in consistently good form this season, and with a worst-ever 30th place finish this year at the second tournament in Hawaii, he has impressed more than us. He won The American Express this year and has a shared 7th place and 15th place finish after that win. He didn't play at Torrey Pines the last weekend in January, but with stats on Driving Accuracy (8th place), GIR (3rd place), Putting (43rd place) and an average of 300 yards Driving, we can't completely avoid the Austrian. In addition, he also played very well in the wind at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am recently and Straka also tees off as the third trio, so I think this should be a good game. He has control in the wind and plays with high self-confidence.
As usual, there will also be tips on H2H duels during the weekend, and you will find these on Oddslisten . You can also join us in Discord to discuss golf and other games all the time.
