Analysis of:
Real Betis - Real Valladolid 24-04-2025

Analysis Information
When Real Betis host Real Valladolid in the 33rd round of the 2024/25 La Liga, two teams with very different goals for the season meet. The home team is on the verge of securing a place in Europe, while the visitors are desperately fighting to avoid relegation - a battle that may already be lost. With only six rounds of the season remaining, every point counts - both to achieve success and to avoid failure.
Real Betis tightens grip on European play
Real Betis are currently in 6th place in La Liga with 51 points after 32 matches. The team has been in solid form recently, with only one defeat in their last 13 matches in all competitions. This includes strong performances such as a 3–1 away win against Girona and draws against both Barcelona and Vitória SC. The green and whites have particularly impressed at home, where they have won a large proportion of their matches and shown good offensive efficiency.
Isco has found new momentum this season and is the team's creative force. In midfield, Giovani Lo Celso has delivered several important goals and assists and seems to be back in good shape after injury.
Under the guidance of experienced Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini, Betis play a possession-based and attacking style, often in a 4-2-3-1 formation. They are comfortable controlling the game through midfield, with the likes of Isco and Antony playing a key role. Up front, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli has been a threat, and Betis' ability to break down deep defences makes them favourites in such encounters.
Real Valladolid is getting ready for the new season in the Segunda División
Real Valladolid, on the other hand, are at the other end of the table. With just 16 points after 32 games, they are bottom of the table, having lost nine of their last ten league games. During this period, they have conceded a whopping 29 goals, while only managing to score 8. With a goal difference of -53 (23 scored, 76 conceded), everything points to the team being relegated to the Segunda División. The only theoretical hope of survival lies in a miraculous points average in the closing stages – and even that may prove to be too little.
The team often operates in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, but has failed to find the right balance between defense and attack. Although players like Darwin Machís, Marcos André and Juanmi Latasa try to create chances with speed and direct play, they are too often isolated. The midfield, with Selim Amallah as the anchor, has also failed to provide the team with sufficient defensive stability or creative support going forward.
Darwin Machís is perhaps the biggest offensive weapon, but without support from the midfield he is often ineffective. First Goalkeeper Hein, goalkeeper Ferrera and Arnau Rafus Aulet – the latter with only one appearance, have had a busy season with many goals conceded. They have taken turns retrieving balls out of their own goal, and part of the problem may lie in the frequent goalkeeper changes. Ferrera has nevertheless been the team's best in recent games for Valladolid – a sign of a lack of confidence in defense.
Comfortable win for Betis
Betis are set to dominate the game. They will likely control the game with a lot of possession and patient attacking play, while Valladolid will try to stay low and focus on counterattacks. The big question is whether Valladolid can withstand the pressure long enough – something they have struggled with this season.
Real Betis have had the upper hand in previous meetings with Valladolid. The last five meetings in La Liga have ended with two wins for Betis, two draws and one win for Valladolid. In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Valladolid won 1–0 at home, but then Betis was plagued by injuries and a lack of form. Now the team looks significantly better. At home, Betis have been rock solid, and they have won four of their last six matches at Estadio Benito Villamarín.
Betis will go for three points to secure a European spot, while Valladolid needs miracles.
