Analysis of:
Parma – Lecce 04-10-2025
Analysis Information
Two teams from the lower half of the table meet in a match where both feel they have a good chance of taking three points. Both Parma and Lecce got a boost in the previous round, which gives extra nerve going into this match. With 14th place versus 20th place in the table and a history of dramatic meetings, everything is set for an intense match.
Parma – Between hope and uncertainty
Parma have had a mixed start to the season. A strong 1-1 draw at home to Atalanta provided a positive start, but was quickly followed by a disappointing defeat to Cagliari – a direct competitor at the bottom. A draw away to newly promoted Cremonese, who have impressed so far, was followed by their first win of the season when they beat Torino at home in the previous round.
Confidence is thus on the rise, and the match against table-topping Lecce could prove to be very important in the relegation battle.
However, the summer was marked by heavy player departures: the great talent Giovanni Leoni left for Liverpool, the lightning winger Dennis Man went to PSV, Simon Sohm was sold to Fiorentina and the power forward Ange-Yoan Bonny went to Inter. Four key players out, without corresponding replacements, have weakened the team considerably.
On the plus side we find the loan signings of Benjamin Cremaschi (Inter Miami) and Patrick Cutrone, as well as the Argentine Mateo Pellegrino who has started strongly with two goals in five games. Parma has 5 points from 5 games – a very good starting point, but games like this must be won if the team is to keep Lecce and other bottom rivals behind.
Lecce – Chasing the first win of the season
Lecce have had a tough start to the season. With just 2 points from 5 games, they are at the bottom of the table. The points have come via a 0–0 away draw against Genoa and a strong 2–2 result at home against Bologna last time out. In that game, Lecce hit the metal three times and delivered an offensive fireworks display before 17-year-old Francesco Camarda equalized in extra time.
The departures of Federico Baschirotto (Cremonese) and Nikola Krstovic (Atalanta) weakened the team defensively and offensively, but the aforementioned Camarda has arrived on loan from Milan, as well as Riccardo Sottil from Fiorentina. Offensively, Lecce has more strings to play on, but defensively they have struggled with easy goals that have cost them points.
With several manageable games in a row, Bologna's efforts could provide the necessary momentum to lift themselves off the bottom.
Termination
This matchup tends to take on a life of its own until the referee blows the whistle. In the last three meetings between Parma and Lecce, we have seen a total of 14 goals, five of which have come after the 90th minute! When the teams met in September 2024, Lecce led 2–0 until the 93rd minute – but the match ultimately ended in a draw.
With two teams full of confidence but still vulnerable defensively, we can expect both goals and drama.
