Analysis of:
NYCFC - Inter Miami 25-09-2025
Analysis Information
With tight match schedules, there is a lot of travel between games for teams playing in America's biggest league, MLS. For us night owls who love action-packed soccer, this is the perfect scenario.
Tonight we are treated to an exciting match between two different clubs with the same philosophy on how to secure three important points. A philosophy that is about playing aggressively, putting pressure on the opponent and winning the ball back quickly to retain possession.
New York City – Full of confidence
It's clear that the men from NYC have entered the game in good form with a lot of confidence ahead of tonight's game. The home team is in 4th place in the table, with 4-1-1 in the last five games - one point ahead of the visitors.
As mentioned, the home team is an action-packed team with values that revolve around applying high pressure, winning the ball back quickly and dominating possession. This could indicate that we will have plenty of chances to score tonight.
And that's exactly what we want against the visitors, who are known for exactly the same thing. There's little more exciting than chances at both ends in a short period of time, if you ask me. With the help of the visitors, we'll probably have an incredibly entertaining match - especially since the teams are neighbours in the table and both need three points.
There is no doubt that coach Pascal Jansen will have to come up with something clever about how they will be able to maintain their own style of play when facing a team that plays the same way, but perhaps manages to execute it even a little better in practice. Time will tell.
Inter Miami – Attack is the best defense
The kings of attacking play, Inter Miami, have traveled to New York to pick up the points they need to climb into 3rd place in MLS, past NYC. Head coach Javier Mascherano and his attacking football already warmed up against DC United at the weekend and showed how dangerous high pressure can be.
The visitors are now in an impressive 4th place with a 3-0-2 record in their last five games. The absence of their big stars earlier in the season has had a major impact on their position in the table. Fortunately, Messi, Jordi Alba, De Paul and Sergio Busquets have been available while Suárez served his penalty for spitting at an opponent.
Like the remnants of the old Barcelona, Messi and company have something to live up to – and they often do. The problem for Inter Miami lies further back. Javier's defense is weakened by the offensive style of play, with aggressive pressing and many players in attack. This means that it often opens up in the middle and especially on the wings. When they also lack top stoppers to cover these spaces, counterattacks become a big challenge.
But attack is often the best defense – whoever scores the most wins the football match. I think the visitors from Miami take this mindset into every match. They usually concede goals, but still win 3-1 or something like that. In fact, the men in pink haven't kept a clean sheet in twelve matches – and that's exactly where we're going with this analysis.
Summary – Game Selection
The game I'm describing is about scoring the most goals, not parking the bus like other teams would do after a goal. This game stinks of more goals than it has in a long time. When two offensive teams with weak defenses meet, there are quickly many goals.
NYC will try to exploit Inter Miami's weaknesses at the back and attack on the counterattacks when Jordi Alba and his friends have been running up the wings to assist Messi. This gives us another reason to believe that both teams will score, as the visitors have not kept a clean sheet in twelve games.
But it's no easy task to score more goals than Miami, when the whole team is pumping balls up towards Messi who pulls off four men before putting the ball in the crossbar as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Because that's the quality of the world's best player.
Unfortunately, both Over 2.5 goals and BTTS offer too low odds to be worth betting on individually, but combined we get a favorable odds that is hard to pass up. I therefore end up with both teams scoring and one of the teams scoring at least two goals.
