This could be a decent season for Newcastle. Winners of the Carabao Cup, and potentially qualifying for next year's Champions League. Not bad for the team from Newcastle upon Tyne, the port city on the North Sea. Important matches against Arsenal and Aston Villa have been lost in recent weeks, but otherwise there have been a lot of big, great, three-pointers too. There are goals in this team, and led by the Swedish Isak, you just have to let yourself be impressed. Everton, for their part, have done it again. They have saved their place. Not only that, something resembling form appeared here in the spring, and they therefore have more than safe enough ground under their feet. Everton is a solid, hard-working football team, but perhaps not what you associate with great entertainment and exciting types. It may be next season's big goal to be able to create a few more magical moments than is the case today.

Newcastle – Filling the void after Tottenham and Manchester United

Because where a couple of big teams have disappointed terribly this season, others have managed to fill the void. Newcastle, Aston Villa and Nottingham are up there now, challenging for the advanced positions. That's kind of what it takes then, if you're going to continue to grow. You have to make money, you have to win things, and you have to be able to offer the coolest games to attract the coolest guys. Once you're inside this circle, it brings with it a lot of opportunities, and where teams like Manchester United are now outside, clubs like Aston Villa and Newcastle can take over as the top teams in the Premier League. It's strange, but if you're 20 years old and about to sign a five-year contract, you want to go to Barcelona, Rome, Paris and Madrid and play Champions League football in the middle of the week. It's not as cool with two extra days of training at the facility before the away game against West Ham at the weekend. This is exactly what can make a club like Newcastle grow, if only they can beat Everton.

Alexander Isak is on everyone's lips these days. Will the Swede go to Arsenal or Liverpool during the summer? It is uncertain what he is thinking, and how tempting it feels to move. But one thing is certain, and that is that Newcastle as a club has better cards in their hand if they have the Champions League to offer in the autumn. Then they have achieved something that the other big teams also like to use as a bargaining chip, while actually lifting an ever-so-small trophy this season. Keeping these guys like Isak is the alpha and omega to establishing themselves at the top. One step forward and two back unfortunately slows down the process too much. The match against Everton has great importance beyond the three points. Isak is also a bit of a question mark ahead of the match. He finished last, and is uncertain for the last, and most important, match of the season.

Newcastle are otherwise in decent form. Several nice wins, good goals are being scored, and the last five home games in the league have all been won. There have been 16 goals in these five. Only two have been conceded. It is not easy to come to the port city to challenge the white and black stripes.

Everton – One gray team in blue

I don't want to break this Everton team in any way, because they have actually managed to secure 13th place with one round of the league remaining. There are teams that disappoint more, and there are also teams that have less to play for than Everton. But there is something solid and a little boring about this team. The bright spot must be Ndiaye, who is thus atypical of Everton. A really good footballer who knows his way to the net. Together with Beto, he has managed to entertain this season, and when he is injury-free and ready to play, Everton is a more dangerous team. The contributions are somewhat sporadic, however, and if you can manage to get a couple more players at this level, you can have something interesting going on.

Everton have ten wins in 37 league rounds. A total of 15 matches have ended in a draw. A difficult team to beat at times, and also a team that concedes few goals with their 44 goals against. The last two matches have been won, against relegation-ready Southampton and against a Fulham team that has run out of inspiration. But still, they have collected a good amount of points, and 13th place will be there no matter how it ends on Sunday.

The question is what Everton will do in the last league game of the season. As I said, you can't move anything in the table, and there is nothing to gain for Everton, other than the good performance itself. We are a little unsure of what version of the blues we will get this weekend, as they now travel to Newcastle, and one of the most difficult away grounds in the league. Newcastle will be 100% turned on, and it could kill any spark in the away team if this should be as tough as we think it will be. Everton is not in the habit of getting into a rut, but having to accept defeat in the last game of the season is likely. It probably won't affect the team from the Beatles town significantly.

Conclusion – Newcastle are ready for a match at home in their own fortress

Here the home team just has to win. We think City will win away to Fulham, we think Villa will win away to United, and we think Chelsea will beat an out-of-form Nottingham side. That means everything is status quo if Newcastle also wins their game. Should we venture out with a cheeky foursome on these four selections then?

For the match, it means that Newcastle just have to do the job. You don't have to wait for any reports from the other arenas, you just have to get the three points. In that case, it will be Aston Villa who will be left out. That on goal difference. What a race it will be in this last round of the league!

A home win is available today at around 1.30 in odds. You won't get rich from that. Goals for both teams give 1.80, but will Everton score in Newcastle then? We might not think so, especially considering what this means for the home team, and the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in the last three. An over or under bet is a bit difficult to decide. What we do know, however, is that Newcastle cannot ride a 1-0 lead. It is potentially disastrous if it were to slip with just minutes left on the clock. No, we think the home team will take the lead, and we think they will grind for another goal or two. That will give them peace of mind, and it will give the team the confidence to see this out. We end up with Newcastle winning the most important game of the season, and that they do so by at least a two-goal margin. But get out the popcorn, and make yourself comfortable, because here the table can change a hundred times between 5 and 7 pm on Sunday evening.

This was the last analysis of the Premier League season. Thanks to the team for this time, and thanks for the feedback along the way. The commitment to English football is great, and it has been a pleasure to cover these matches as the season has unfolded. Enjoy everything else that is posted on 90minutefamily, and we'll see you again in the fall!
