Analysis Information
We will be traveling to Örnsköldsvik in Sweden. Where MoDo plays its home games in the Fjällräven Center. The home team is coming off a couple of strong wins, and will face Mora, who are completely out of form at the moment.
MoDo is in 2nd place so far in the season, and should be favorites against Mora who are struggling at the bottom of the table in 13th place so far. It is certainly a place they want to get away from. For the bottom two places (13-14), there is a risk of relegation.
MoDo Hockey - a club for legends
MoDo is a club that has left its mark on Swedish hockey. They have had many stars in their ranks. Players like Peter Forsberg, Tommy Salo, Markus Näslund, both Sedin brothers and our dear Mats Zuccarello Aasen.
That's probably why many believe they belong at a higher level in Swedish hockey, and this year could actually be the year it happens. The team is in a nice 2nd place, and is on track to reach the playoffs with a good seeding.
The club has just gone through its toughest period of the season with 3 losses in a row. Before they have now got back on track, with two strong wins in the last two. Especially the last match, which was at home against the team that is number three in the table. They beat Kalmar 4-2 at home. The fact that they are on home soil has been the team's strength this year. They are clearly the best of all teams, and have 26 points in 11 matches at home. The goal difference is also a solid 41-29.
Tyler Kelleher is one of the big reasons why the team has done so well. After the transfer from Djurgården, he has delivered great goal-scoring numbers. He has 19 points so far in 18 games. Otherwise, one of the strengths of the team is that they produce in all ranks. It is definitely a strength at this level.
We think the team will continue their good form and are probably the clear favorites in this one. But let's take a look at their opponent first.
Mora IK – far behind last year
Many people ask themselves if Mora is a team in free fall. If you look at the position in the table, you want to answer yes. Because this is a team that a few years ago was a top team in this division. They are now number 13. While last year they finished in 7th place. If you take into account the year before (5th place), and the year before that (3rd place), it actually looks like a team that is about to play itself out of good company.
The team clearly had higher expectations before this season. But they have had a tough time, and are perhaps currently in their toughest period of the season. They now have 6 losses in a row. Which certainly does not give confidence going into this tough away match. If you also look at who they have lost to. It is not just the top teams. They are losing to everyone at the moment. Away, the team has only 7 points in 8 matches. So that does not bode well either. Negative goal difference of 23-27 is also a sure thing in the same matches.
But Mora actually has a line that creates a lot. That line is what must be stopped if this team is to be beaten. Degerstedt, de Jong and Karlstrøm all have good statistics so far. But the problem is that they are a bit alone. There is little contribution elsewhere in the team, and you can't stand up to all the other lines.
Conclusion – form is crucial
Form could easily be the deciding factor here. It's a top team that has won their last two, against a bottom team that has lost their last six. Considering that MoDo is also the best home team of all so far this season, this is probably not the game that will turn things around for Mora.
We believe in the home team here. So much so that we dare to make a handicap bet.
