Analysis of:
Luleå HF – Örebro HK

Written by: Ragnar Sundberg

Analysis Information
The SHL playoffs are in full swing, and after the first game we now head to Luleå and Coop Norrbotten Arena. Luleå HF got off to a dream start to the series with a convincing 2–6 win away against Örebro HK. This has set the standard for game two on home ice.
With that starting point, there is little doubt that the pressure is now on the visitors. Luleå has the opportunity to decide, while Örebro must respond to keep the season alive.
Luleå HF – in the driver's seat
There is little doubt that Luleå got off to exactly the start they wanted. Not only did they win, but they did it in a way that underscores the difference in quality between the teams when they finally returned to their level.
The team has previously shown that they thrive in the playoff format, and it seems like they have already found their rhythm. The experience from last year's triumph, combined with a strong international season, gives them an extra boost when the games really matter.
Now they also have the advantage of home court, where they are traditionally solid. With the confidence from the big win in the first game, and the opportunity to decide the series in front of their own supporters, everything is in place for another strong performance.
Their breadth of players and ability to produce from multiple players make them difficult to deal with. Players like O'Neill, Nurmi and Allard contribute along with the Swedish profiles, giving the team an offensive heft that Örebro struggled to contain recently.
Örebro HK – must find answers
For Örebro, this match is all about response. The loss in the first match was not only a defeat, but also a clear reminder of what is required at this level. They were never close in the previous match.
The team has been consistently placed in this part of the table over time, and this is often where the journey stops. If they are to break that pattern, they will have to improve significantly from what they showed last time.
Offensively, much has been about individual players throughout the season. Patrik Karlkvist has been a mainstay with his point production, and along with Shane Prince Quenneville (Quenneville), he has been among the few who consistently deliver.
The challenge is that the team becomes too dependent on these. When they face a team with greater breadth and more strings to play on, it quickly becomes apparent – as we saw in the first match.
Another factor is that Örebro is normally much stronger at home than away. Now they have to perform in an arena where Luleå thrives very well, and that makes the task even tougher.
Conclusion
With control from the first game and home advantage behind them, this looks to be Luleå's match to lose. They have both the quality, breadth and experience needed to handle such situations.
Örebro needs to step up several notches – both defensively and in their ability to create pressure over time – if they are to be able to force a third game.
From what we have seen so far, most things point to Luleå taking advantage of the momentum and finishing the job here.
We feel almost obligated to play this match when the odds are still good for a home win. We play the following bets:
Hockey at 19:00: Luleå HF – Örebro HK: Luleå HF wins (1.80)
