Littler vs Clayton – Top duel in the Premier League

Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton meet on Thursday night for another heavyweight clash in the Premier League Darts. Both players are already set for the finals in London, but that doesn't mean their motivation is gone. On the contrary, the final rounds are all about rhythm, confidence and sending signals before the final at the O2 Arena.

The Premier League format is brutal throughout a long season, and only the top four in the table get to play on final night. Both Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton have delivered consistently enough throughout the spring to secure a place in the top four, and Thursday's meeting will therefore be an interesting test between two players who are both looking to build towards the playoffs.

Littler plays surprisingly even quarterfinals

What is perhaps most impressive about Littler this spring is how consistent his top form has been. In the Premier League, he has produced averages well over 100 almost weekly, while dominating many matches with aggressive scoring and high 180 production.

However, the quarter-final statistics show an interesting pattern. When isolating just his Premier League quarter-finals in 2026, the match picture actually becomes far more even than the overall impression of the season.

Littler's quarter-final results in the Premier League this season have been:
6–5, 6–3, 6–2, 4–6, 5–6, 6–3, 6–3, 6–5, 6–4, 3–6, 6–5 and 4–6.

It gives a clear picture: Littler plays a surprising number of even quarterfinals, even in matches where he is a clear favorite in advance.

Clayton keeps the games alive

Clayton's Premier League quarter-final performances give a similar impression. Although his level varies more than Littler's, he is very good at keeping games competitive.

Clayton's quarterfinal results this season have been:
6–2, 2–6, 6–5, 6–2, 6–5, 4–6, 3–6, 3–6, 6–3, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 and 6–2.

Perhaps most interestingly, Clayton rarely collapses completely in the quarterfinals. Several of his matches go the distance, and he has been involved in many 6–5 and 6–4 matches throughout the season. He has won most of the matches that have gone the shortest.

The statistics point to many legs

When combining the quarterfinals of both players, the statistics around the number of legs become very interesting.

Only four of the 25 Premier League quarter-finals for the two players have gone under 8.5 legs. This means that 21 of the 25 matches have produced at least nine legs in total.

25/21 = 84%

That is a very high number, especially in a format where matches are only played to six wins.

At the same time, the playing style of both players points in the same direction. Littler scores heavily and often wins comfortable legs, but he also plays many quarterfinals that end 6–3 or 6–4. Clayton, on the other hand, is very good at staying in matches through solid checkouts and experience in pressured situations.

This means that it often only takes one or two more good periods from Clayton before the match goes over the line in a total of nine legs.

Conclusion

Therefore, the betting market on the number of legs appears to be extra interesting this time. Over 8.5 legs at around 1.50 odds seems to be one of the most sensible bets in the match.

All you need is for the match to end 6–3 or even, and both the statistics and match pictures from the Premier League quarter-finals clearly point in that direction.

Littler is still the favorite to win the match, but history shows that he very often has to work hard for his victories in the quarterfinals. At the same time, Clayton has shown throughout the season that he rarely gives up short matches against top opposition.

Everything therefore points to an entertaining and relatively close quarterfinal on Thursday evening and I will play:

Darts at 21:40: Luke Littler - Jonny Clayton: Over 8.5 legs (1.50)

Want a little more risk, but also possible, over 9.5 legs at 2.20 in odds can be considered
