Analysis Information
The most important match of the season for Levante – everything is decided now
The final round of the Spanish Segunda División will be played on Sunday at Ciutat de València, where league leaders Levante will host SD Eibar. The match is crucial for promotion: Levante is at the top with 76 points and is very close to direct promotion. Eibar is in 9th place with 58 points and has no chance of reaching the playoffs. The table and the importance of the matches mean that Levante is forced to win to secure their position, while Eibar can play without pressure. Both teams have shown good goal form towards the end of the season, which could result in an open and goal-oriented match.
Levante – form, playing style, key factors
Levante has dominated the series with 21 wins, 13 draws and 7 losses. The team has scored 68 goals this season, second most in the league, and is particularly strong offensively. The home record is impressive (12–7–1), and the team often scores goals early. Under coach Julián Calero, Levante typically plays with an offensive 4-3-3 formation, where the wings and strikers create danger. The top scorers are Brugué and veteran José Luis Morales, both with 11 goals this season. In addition, they have Iván Romero (9 goals) who has been a dangerous striker. If Romero were to miss out due to injury, the responsibility would fall on the first two. The last five league matches have yielded 3 wins (3-2 over Burgos, 1-0 over Albacete, 1-3 over Elche), 1 draw (1-1 against Tenerife) and 1 loss (0-1 against Oviedo), which confirms stable form. There have been a number of changes in the team recently, but it works well, and the team has higher speed and technical capacity than Eibar.
Eibar – form, playing style, key factors
Eibar has had a consistent season (15–13–13) and finished strongly with 3 wins in the last 5 games (4–1 against Córdoba, 1–0 against Burgos, 0–2 against Granada), 1 draw (1–1 against Tenerife) and 1 loss (0–1 against Mirandés). The score of 58 means that the club is safely in the middle of the table without any promotion or relegation worries. At home they are good (11–6–4, goal difference 27–19), while their away statistics are weak (4–7–9, 17–21). Under coach Beñat San José, Eibar has established a 4–2–3–1 formation, with a focus on solid combinations at the back and counterattacks up front. In-form player Jon Bautista leads the attack with 11 goals, while José Corpas (6 goals) and young Jorge Pascual (5 goals) contribute offensively. Key players Comas and Nolaskoain are out with injuries, which weakens the back four and the midfield. In total, Eibar has scored 44 goals this season, but has also conceded many (goals against average over 1 per game). Eibar will probably line up compactly in 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 with the aim of defensive security and counterattacking, but the last few home matches have shown that the team can score more goals (average almost 1.5 goals per game at home).
Direct promotion at stake – can Levante finish the job against an uninterested Eibar?
This is the match Levante must win – and everything is in place for them to do so. With the league lead and promotion at stake, they are playing with maximum motivation in front of their own supporters, in a stadium where they have been strong all season. They have won 12 of 20 home matches and scored 41 goals at home – more than any other team in the league. The form is solid, the attacking line is in action, and the team has delivered 1-0, 1-1 and 5-2 in their last three home matches.
Eibar, on the other hand, are in no man's land: neither promoted nor relegated, and are playing without their usual midfield and defensive balance due to injuries. They have only won 4 away games all season, and don't seem to have much to play for here. Everything indicates that Levante will control the game, dominate the ball, create the most chances - and ultimately decide this in their favor.
With all this in mind, and a stadium that will be boiling in what could be a promotion celebration, it is difficult to go against the home team here.
