Analysis Information
This weekend we are taking a trip to the north of Germany, specifically Kiel. The match Holstein Kiel – Arminia Bielefeld quickly stood out among one of the weekend's anticipated matches, closely followed by Hertha Berlin – Karlsruher. Holstein Kiel had to take the difficult trip down to the 2nd Bundesliga again after another poor season in the same company – the Bundesliga. The welcome was not very pleasant, a 2-1 loss away to Paderborn. This must be rectified, as soon as possible, if it is not to be a lead-heavy start. Therefore, it could not have been less appropriate to meet a high-flying Arminia Bielefeld. They crushed Fortuna Düsseldorf 5-1 in the opening round, and seem to have brought with them the raw self-confidence from both league and cup games from last season. We dare to give this match a guarantee stamp of entertainment!
Holstein Kiel – Where will this season go?
It was a heavy return to the 2nd Bundesliga last weekend in Paderborn. It seemed to be heading towards 1-1 after a goal in the 85th minute of play and a completely acceptable result, to concede a goal 9 (!) minutes into overtime. The Kiel players were clearly out of breath, but now it is a home game and the chance is golden to rectify the table situation immediately. But Holstein has struggled against Arminia for years, we have to go all the way back to 2017 the last time Holstein won, since then Arminia stands with 6 wins and 1 draw. Most recently in 2023 Arminia won 3-2 in Kiel.
There is undoubtedly an attacking spirit in this Holstein team. They tried honorably to collect the points they needed last season, but the quality was lacking. If we stretch the ball a little further and look at the last 5 for Holstein Kiel, they have over 2.5 goals in all 5. They showed enormous determination in the matches against Mönchengladbach (4-3) and Augsburg (3-1) for example, and the main base of the team has not changed much since then. It should also be noted that no notable reinforcements have been brought in. This puts Holstein Kiel in a somewhat uncertain section: promotion candidate? Yes. Promotion favorite? No.
If we are to have something to base ourselves on, statistically speaking, we have no more than the Paderborn match to lean on as of now. In terms of play, they were ajóur and they had their chances, but an xG of 0.43 doesn't exactly scream goals. Still, the game was set, 80% accuracy on the passes, 12 interceptions and most of the 1st and 2nd duels were won. The will is there. It must be there against Die Arminen, because they won't come to Kiel to defend themselves.
Arminia Bielefeld – High-flying Die Arminen travel to Kiel with a suitcase full of confidence
Die Arminen come to Kiel to take 3 points, there is no doubt about that. They know they can beat most teams in Germany on a good day. Apart from Wörl, the squad is largely the same as last season. It is a good squad and more than competitive for the 2. Bundesliga, Kniat knows that, but he has still done very smartly in bringing in Boakye (Stuttgart), Micheler (Hoffenheim, loan) and Norbye (RB Leipzig, loan). Only the former was involved in the Fortuna match, but it is expected that we will see more of all three as the season progresses.
The match against Fortuna Düsseldorf was as expected. A slightly nervous opening, a load of cards (6 yellows, which also resulted in 1 red card for Fortuna after 44 minutes), and a draw at half-time. Kniat must have fed something or other during the break, because the 2nd half exploded and Arminia was razor-sharp in front of goal. There were 5 goals, xG of 2.84, and they also escaped with the horror and 3 big chances that Fortuna burned. But they were superior in most things when it came to accuracy, the passes were in both their own half and the opponents' half and the defense was able to clear them away. Lannert – Schneider – Grosser was a blast last season, but unfortunately Oppie has disappeared to St. Pauli, so Handwerker has big shoes to fill. He did that excellently against Fortuna, with an assist and a rating of 7.8.
Die Arminen have a solid hold on Holstein Kiel, they know that. But we have seen too many times before that when there is talk of history, it is broken. Here, history will be forgotten and the main focus will be to build on the game from the first match, knowing full well that Holstein-Stadion is a difficult mat to play on. However, the team knows they have goals in them, especially after the break, where the pace is often turned up, clearly seen against Fortuna. On the negative side, they mostly concede goals. If we look at the last 5 matches, they have conceded in 4 out of 5.
Conclusion: Target with probability of repetition of history
The first natural place to start with these teams is goals. Both have it in them and we think we will get goals both ways here. So do the bookmakers, we get it at 1.52. Absolutely, we do as before and throw in over 2.5 goals too, alone it gets at 1.60, but the combo gets at 1.82, which is a nice bet. Kiel stands with bts in the last 4 of 5 and over 2.5 in the last 5 of 5. Arminia stands with bts in the last 4 of 5 and over 2.5 in the last 3 of 5. We lean mostly on the opening match of both teams here, and then we include a little bit of history where we have bts+over 2.5 in the last 4 of 5 internally.
Furthermore, an interesting bet is a draw at half-time, which is available at 2.40. Both teams tend to turn up the pace after the break, and Arminia in particular tends to go into the break with a draw (last 3 of 5). Holstein Kiel also lost Machino who went to Mönchengladbach and has not received a clean replacement. A cautious 1st half is expected, but this of course comes with the risk of two attacking teams. Holstein will correct after the first match, Arminia will build on theirs and get a super start to the season. We put this bet on the sidelines as a bonus for those who want slightly higher odds with higher risk.
Do we have anything to learn from cards and corner kicks? Holstein produced a total of 0 corners against Paderborn. Paderborn was not much better with their 3. There were also some cards, 4 to Holstein and 1 to Paderborn. In Bielefeld there was more corner action, Arminia with 8 and Fortuna with 3. As mentioned, there were also cards, 8 in total. At the time of writing we cannot find any card kicks, but check it out before the match starts, there may be something to learn here, especially if you settle for, for example, over 3.5 cards.
All in all, we end up with the following main games:
Germany at 1:30 PM: Holstein Kiel – Arminia Bielefeld: Over 2.5 goals (1.60)
Alternative games:
Germany at 1:30 PM: Holstein Kiel – Arminia Bielefeld: Both teams to score + over 2.5 goals (1.82)
