When two clubs from the Dutch top division meet in a season-ending fixture where points are worth more than tulips in April, there is almost always drama in the air. The Eredivisie is known for its attacking approach, high tempo and a culture where attacking football is valued over cynical control, and that is why we find good value in today's main game.

Heracles Almelo is based in Almelo in the province of Overijssel, while NAC Breda represents the city of Breda in Noord-Brabant. Both clubs have long traditions, loyal supporters and a history marked by ups and downs – and it is precisely in such seasons, where survival is the mantra, that the matches take on a very entertaining character.

Heracles – a goal guarantee with a knife at his throat

For Heracles, this is about pure survival. They are below the line, and home games are no longer occasions – they are necessities. The goal difference of 31–57 after 22 games is brutal reading. 88 goals in total gives an average of four goals per game – a number that is almost comically high, but at the same time speaks to the team's identity this season: vulnerable at the back, but never toothless up front.

The fact that 17 of 22 matches have gone over 2.5 goals underlines the same. They have to win, and they know it. One point hardly helps when the distance to safety is now four points. The injury situation has varied throughout the winter, and the instability at the back has cost them dearly. Nevertheless; in matches like this, there is rarely room for calculated risk. Here, they have to push hard from the start.

NAC Breda – attack is the best defense

NAC Breda are in a similar situation. They too are below the line, and they too know that time is running out. The average of 2.7 goals per game is more moderate than the hosts', but the context is important; they have shown improvement in their play recently, even if the points haul does not fully reflect that.

Two goals against both Twente and PSV – and a draw in both matches – are evidence of a team that dares more, that plays with greater risk and that is starting to find the back of the net against strong opposition. When you are in the swamp, 0–0 away from home is no longer enough. If hope is to live, the risk must be increased. That means higher pressure, more people in attack – and more space in both directions.

Only three points are good enough – for both

And that's why a lot points to a high-scoring affair. This is a match no one can afford to lose, but paradoxically no one really benefits from a single point either. Breda won 2–1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, while Heracles hit back with a 4–1 win when the teams met in the cup earlier this year.

History points in the direction of open matches with more goals. When we add Heracles' extreme goal average and Breda's emerging offensive, today's main game appears to be a game with surprisingly good value. The pressure, desperation and the need for three points make this a game that is unlikely to die quietly. Here there could easily be both three and four goals - maybe even more - and that is exactly why we land on the following bet;
