Analysis Information
Two teams in need of points meet at Briskeby Stadium when Hamarkameratene take on Molde in the 8th round of the league. We are almost 1/3 of the way through the season, and both of these teams have started poorly. Molde in particular, who were tipped as one of the top teams before the season, have probably started far below their own expectations. They have struggled with injuries, and there has been very little continuity so far, and has varied from good periods to disastrously bad matches.
Hamarkameratene are more as expected, although they would have probably hoped for a better point haul. They opened with a somewhat lucky win at home over Kristiansund. Before that they lost to Viking and played a draw against KFUM.
We're going to look a little more at the results of both teams, as well as try to talk a little about the development and signs we've picked up on from both teams. Stay tuned!
The Hamarkameratene – Little in front and a lot behind.
Hamarkameratene or Hamkam as many call them, has started weakly as we have already mentioned. The change from last year, which ended in a "safe" 12th place, is without a doubt that the team concedes many more goals than they did last year. Because while Hamkam had the best goal difference of all the teams that finished with 33 points last year, and Haugesund with the same points tally ended in 14th place and qualified, Hamkam had clearly conceded the fewest goals.
Last year the team had an average of 1.3 goals conceded, while in the 7 games they have played this year, they have an average of 2.28 per game so far. Considering that they also played 0-0 at home against KFUM, they have an average of 2.66 goals against in the games they have not kept a clean sheet. Last year the team also scored an average of 1.13 goals forward in the field, while this year they are at 0.71 goals scored per game. A clear difference both offensively and defensively compared to last year. If you look at the history between these two teams, Hamkam probably had an advantage in the early 2000s. But then players like Frigård and Dokken were part of the home team. A good period for the team in Hamar.
But after this, it is undoubtedly Molde who has been the big brother in these matches. If you look in isolation at the matches that have been in the elite series, after both teams got to this level. Hamkam has not actually beaten Molde. six matches have been played since the 2022 season, and the away team has a 4-2-0 advantage. We think this may continue. Because even if the away team is not in shape, we have a home team that has at least as big problems. Before we conclude completely, we take a look at the away team.
Molde – Many questions and few answers.
A bit like we have written about before here, we are very curious about whether Høgmo and Molde are a good match? As it stands now, we are sure that it is not. A coach who outwardly expresses little other than standard phrases that he sees a lot of good, and the players are praised for their efforts and other standard statements a coach often uses when he is struggling to explain why the team is not performing. Because there is no doubt so far in the season, this team has underperformed.
As mentioned, the team has struggled with injuries to important players, and you could count well over 10 players who were relevant for a starting place. a period. It looks somewhat better now in terms of available personnel. Molde's last two matches are special. It started with an undeserved loss in the series against Kristiansund. A match Molde out of xG should have won easily. 2.28 against 0.42. They still lost 0-1, even though you saw clear tendencies towards a better Molde team.
There was therefore great excitement surrounding the cup match 5 days later against the same team. Because now this loss was to be avenged. It looked like this for a long time. In the first 70 minutes of the match, Molde dominated in a way that has not been seen this season. The problem here is that they changed down during the match. Because while Molde was still leading 2-0, Molde changed the following players. Martin Linnes, Eirik Haugan, Veton Berisha and Magnus Wolf Eikrem. It is our claim that this helped turn the match around. Because even though Molde continued to dominate the match after Kristiansund had reduced to 2-1 in the 70th minute. They still could not decide. It ended with 2-2 in overtime, and a loss in the extra rounds.
We therefore believe we will see a desperate and efficient Molde, who will not gamble with substitutions in this match. They have also looked better away from home lately. 0-0 against RBK and 0-3 win against Bryne. This is a team that should have it in them, and we expect the team to rise now.
Conclusion – Molde should be better.
If you had said before the season that in round 8, you would get odds of over 2 that Molde would beat Hamkam away, you would have welcomed it with open arms.
We think now that Molde looks better in terms of injuries, and desperately needs 3 points. Then it's time to try a game in that direction. They have actually delivered much better lately than they have been paid for. So we are betting that things will turn around a bit in this match.
Hamkam has more than enough to get the defensive game in order, and is a good opponent for a desperate Molde team. We try the following play.
Eliteserien at 14:30: Hamarkameratene – Molde: Molde wins (2.06)
