Analysis Information
We are going to East Flanders, and to the important match between Gent and Club Brugge. A match where the away team is made big favorites. In isolation we have nothing to complain about, but in this particular case we believe the value lies with the home team.
Analysis of the teams
The regular season in the Jupiler Pro League is coming to an end, and with four games left before the league splits into three, the starting point is quite different for today's two teams. While the home team still has not secured a place in what has been called the "Championship Group", the away team has already secured its place in the same group. And the difference between the "Championship Group" and the "Conference Group" is enormous.
Gent – a team chasing points
Exactly 10 years since the team last won the Jupiler Pro League, they are in danger of not being able to join the good company. With 3 points down to St.Liege, four rounds before the end, Club Brugge is not really the team you want to visit. But perhaps the timing is good, because there are several reasons why the away team should have other things in mind than just three points here.
And with 7-3-3 in 13 home games this year, and only 13 goals conceded, it may be their home form that they will have to rely on if they are to get a place in the "Championship Group" when the doors close in just over a month. And the task does not need to be any easier now that a couple of players are out with injuries. But the same group has been out for a while, and the 0-0 away against the league leader last time showed that they have other players who are ready to take over for players like Mitrović, Gerkens, Dean, Fadiga and Hjulsager.
Club Brugge – the focus lies elsewhere
Even though first place is currently out of reach for today's away team, the season has been a huge success. The place in the "Championship Group" is secured, and even though they want points to position themselves as best as possible before the second part of the season begins, that's what the Champions League is all about.
For the tournament has been a great adventure this year. It's one thing to get through the group stage, but few would have thought they would beat Atalanta. Especially not in such a convincing way. 5-2 on aggregate is extremely impressive, and especially 1-3 in Bergamo is probably the biggest thing that has happened to Belgian football. Especially for those who don't remember Club Brugge's silver in this tournament in 1978.
But promotion has its price. Aston Villa will be visiting next Tuesday for what will be the team's most important match in many years. And when the place in the "Championship Group" is already secured, I am surprised if it is the domestic series that has 1st priority now. And the surprising home loss against St.Liege last weekend probably shows that thoughts are already elsewhere.
And in the aforementioned match against St.Liege, Tzolis also received a red card. The man who set up two of the goals against Atalanta has been one of the team's best players since joining from Fortuna Düsseldorf, with 8 goals and 5 assists. And he will be missed here.
Therefore, we believe at least one point will remain in Gent
Motivation is a strong factor in football. And there is no denying that that is what is behind this game. Because while Gent showed away against Genk last time that they can deliver the goods when needed, Club Brugge showed that their minds are elsewhere by losing at home to St.Liege. And without Tzolis, and with Aston Villa on Tuesday, it feels good to get playable odds on a game that gives us our money back in the event of a one-goal loss. And that is why we end up here;
Belgium at 16:00: Gent - Club Brugge: Gent +1 Asian handicap (1.58)
Alternative game;
Belgium at 16:00: Gent – Club Brugge: 1X (2.03)
