Analysis Information
Fulham–Nottingham
Previously a duel between two grey, slightly boring teams, now a showdown between two solid Premier League teams, where Nottingham is also in the fight for a Champions League ticket for next season! A remarkable development in both clubs, and not only has it led to results, it has also provided two fun clubs to watch. Nottingham in particular has taken the current season by storm, and the fact that they are now holding on to third place after 24 rounds is nothing short of an achievement. Teams like Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa must therefore see the guys from Sherwood Forest ahead of them, and Chris Wood puts even the most seasoned goalscorer in the shade. Funny for those of us who love football, and very often fertile ground for nice odds bets. Fulham won the opposite match in the autumn by the narrowest possible margin, 1-0. We believe in a little more action this February day in London.
Fulham
Ninth place with a goal difference of 36-32. Nine wins, nine draws and six losses paint a picture of a team that is completely even, and then ninth place fits quite well. The results vary, and you are both a tired opponent for the supposedly best, while at the same time you are not always able to follow up in matches where you should take the lead and control the game. The previous league match, away against Newcastle, is actually a good example. One of the most difficult away grounds in the league, but Fulham came out on top, and won the match 2-1. Not many people leave St. James Park with three points in their bag, but after goals from Jimenez and substitute Muniz, Fulham took another big scalp.
Now when we get home and face Nottingham, we are back to following up with another good performance. Fulham will probably benefit from giving the ball away at times and trying their poisonous transitions. Smith Rowe, Iwobi, and maybe Traore too are all capable of putting the ball in the net, and Nottingham will get a real challenge on Saturday. There are a lot of chances created by the home team, and look especially for Robinson at left-back, and his raids up the line. A very good footballer, and often initiates when Fulham slow down.
Nottingham
Nottingham has probably gained a lot of new fans in 2024/2025. The old big club is back at the top of the Premier League, and you can get nostalgic for the smaller ones when you now see Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham at the top. For many outsiders, this drastic improvement will come unexpectedly. 47 points after 24 rounds is very close to two points on average, which generally means top four in the Premier League. There are probably many who have to pinch themselves about what is happening at the club, and perhaps the most impressive thing has to be the defensive structure. No, we haven't forgotten Chris Wood. Nottingham has conceded just 27 goals so far, only Liverpool and Arsenal are closer.
The last away game is in stark contrast. Nottingham went to Bournemouth and were unrecognizable. Bournemouth are certainly having their best season in a long time, but 0-5 was brutal. Nothing worked, and you started to wonder if the air would now go out of the balloon. But then they hit back in the following game, at home to Brighton. A full 7-0 was on the scoreboard, and again we stood there with our mouths open and our noses gritted in admiration. A combined goal difference of 7-5 in these last two league games is somewhat atypical, but generating goal chances is nothing new. Chris Wood is having a dream season, but it wouldn't have been the case without two very good wing-backs, and inside runners with top-class cross-footers. Aina, Williams, Gibbs-White and Elanga simply play the great New Zealander well. The result is a machine you don't want to face.
Conclusion
An interesting match, where Nottingham obviously wants to keep the adventure going, while Fulham will try to build on their performance away against Newcastle. The problem for the home team is that Nottingham is a very good away team, actually second best in the league. And we agree, we consider Nottingham as favorites on Saturday. However, Fulham usually does not let themselves be fooled in these matches. As is well known, they won the opposite match, and we will not be surprised if they manage to make this exciting again. There are very few injuries to take into account, so then it is the daily form and effort that counts. It is usually in place for both teams, and we believe that we are right to land on goals for both teams. The odds are inviting, so then we land there, in a match that can swing either way. As mentioned earlier, we probably give the away team a little nod over the home team, so different variants of an away win, either with or without a half-guard can be considered.
