For us, international matches should be played every weekend, as long as we get football from the lower divisions. Because the charm that disappeared when money took over the Premier League never went abroad. It just went down the league system.

Every weekend we spend a couple of hours watching football from League One, League Two and the National League. It is highly recommended. The miserable stand conditions, the camera movement and the shouting from the stands that the sound engineer cannot filter out are so charming that we almost burst. And some teams have stuck better than others. Today's away team is one of them.

Swindon Town – will they finally succeed?

It's been a long time since Jan Åge Fjørtoft, Fraser Digby and Colin Calderwood ran around the County Ground. It was also here that Charlie Austin broke through, back in 2009. The old Swindon legend also made 66 appearances at the end of his career, scoring 21 goals from 2022 to 2024.

But this year's team also has its own profiles, and the biggest of them all is Aaron Drinan. The Irishman, who actually tried out for Swedish GAIS, has 10 goals this year, and is the league's top scorer. Together with Snowdon and Munroe, they have been responsible for the entertainment at The Robins.

Because there has been plenty of entertainment. Both this year and the previous year. But in football, entertainment is not always synonymous with good results. Last year they scored 71 goals in 46, but still ended up in 12th place. Because with 63 goals behind, it will take something to make the step up to League One. Or?

Because they have continued in more or less the same vein this year. They are among the teams that score the most, with their 26 goals in the year's 15 matches, but they have also conceded the most goals of the teams in the top, with their 20 goals from behind. Now it remains to be seen whether they can hold on to second place, and thereby secure promotion, but what is certain is that The Railwaymen will entertain while they try.

Fleetwood Town – From Lancashire with love

For small Fleetwood Town, who are in 4th place in League One as their best record, it is good to be able to hit the ground running by being the club that sold Jamie Vardy to Leicester City in 2012. The notorious and colourful goalscorer was heavily involved in Fleetwood Town's promotion from the National League that year, and the money they received from Leicester City (£1 million) came in handy in the effort to create something strong enough to survive League Two.

13 years later they are still here. They were briefly promoted to League One, but have returned to League Two, and that is probably where they belong. 14th place last year, and 13th place so far this year is good proof that they have found their level. In addition, they have found their profile. Because with a 60-60 goal difference last year, and 22-22 so far this year, they are also a team that gives the audience value for money. And at home at Highbury Stadium they have been absolutely brilliant this year.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a mess in the machinery before the important match against Swindon. Defender Denver Hume is back in light training, but it will probably be a while before we see him on the pitch again after the nasty head injury he sustained. In addition, it is doubtful that centre-back Shaun Rooney will be ready, as is midfielder Jordan Davies. And as if that wasn't enough, both Will Johnson and Finley Potter will probably have to sit out. Both defenders. However, they will probably manage just fine without Ronan Coughlan and Liam Roberts. Two players who are also injured, but who have played minimally this year.

But fortunately, Fleetwood have a lot of strings to play on. It's getting thin at the back, but both Ryan Graydon and Will Davies have been toxic in front of goal this year, and there are a whole bunch of players who have contributed with both goals and assists for the home team, so they will definitely bite hard here.

Conclusion – this smells like a goal

As always, when both Swindon Town and Fleetwood Town are in action, goals are a must. And although the home team averages 2.9 goals, and the away team averages 3.1, it is worth noting that Swindon is the team with the highest goal average away from home, with 3.3 goals per game. And guess what; Fleetwood Town is actually the team with the highest goal average at home, with 3.7 goals per game. So this bodes well.

In addition, it must be mentioned that 11 of Fleetwood's 15 matches have ended with "both teams scoring" this year. At home, the numbers are even more impressive, because there they stand with 7 out of 7. So 100% of home matches have ended with "both teams scoring", and that will probably not change when Swindon comes to visit.

For the away team, the numbers are not as impressive. 9 of this year's 15 matches have ended with "both teams scoring", and 4 of this year's 7 away matches have ended with the same result. But we should remember that it is the away team that is the odds favorite here, so I think the key is to get a goal from the home team. And both statistics, history and home form indicate that it will go just fine. So then we have to try the following bet;

England at 16:00: Fleetwood Town - Swindon Town: Both teams to score (1.64)
