Bergen is shaking. Brann has secured a European harvest, but this weekend it's all about the Eliteserien: three points – and avoiding losing ground at the top. Vålerenga fills the away field, Brann Stadion is filled to the brim, and the rivalry between Bataljonen and Klanen is rekindled. West against East. Sound against sound. Pace against transition power. This is the match that often means more than three points.

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has postponed the match to Saturday – whether it was a good idea will be decided later. It will be packed anyway: Vålerenga sold out the away field in record time, almost three weeks before kick-off, and could probably have sold more if there were more tickets.

Fire – Crowded stadium and boiling atmosphere in Bergen

Under Freyr Alexandersson, much of the identity from the Horneland era has been preserved: intensity. That means a short path to chances when they win the ball, and a team that can stand man-man low if they have to – but most of all they press high in the opponent's half. Dead balls are a clear weapon, with precise servers and a lot of punch in the box.

The identity is there: energy, recovery and crowd pressure. At Brann Stadion they go high, win the ball early and pump it up with full-backs who create width. 4–3–3 is alive and well, with a running midfield that fills the box and attackers who threaten in the back space as soon as the space opens up.

There has been unrest around vice-captain Felix Horn Myhre after the offer from Bodø/Glimt on "deadline day". Myhre openly said that he wanted to go north, but Brann declined, and then it went straight into the international break. At the first session after the meeting, he apologized to his teammates and the club. The signals from the locker room and from Freyr are that things have been cleaned up and normalized. With a full stadium and a meeting with his old club Vålerenga, everything is in place for Horn Myhre to get a response match - either as a pace anchor in the pressure, or perhaps also with a goal. He had a solid match for Norway against Moldova and will probably want to prove something to the audience in Bergen.

Against Vålerenga, the key is to keep the pressure up in the first few minutes. This is often where Brann forces mistakes and produces many chances and corners. They like to lure the opposing full-backs high and quickly beat past the first pressing link. If Brann manages to lock the space and prevent the opposing crosses, they get the game into their groove – with high tempo, quick attacks and lots of crosses.

Form: Brann's last four matches (two elite league matches + double match against AEK Larnaca): 3–1–0, goal difference 10–4.

Vålerenga – Will the winning streak be stopped now?

There is a lot of positive news in Oslo and at Vålerenga these days. The summer window is closed, and Enga has made good use of it: The new players have raised the team considerably. In addition, former defense general Ivan Näsberg is back, and now the team is starting to look good in all aspects. The only thing that could have topped the window was if this summer's "talking star", Ole Sæter, had signed.

There are few fans in the stands who are watching Vålerenga – home or away. After the Norwegian Football Association chose collective punishment in response to the fireworks display against Sarpsborg, the Clan stood outside the stadium and sang for 90 minutes – and actually sang out the Bryne supporters.

Sportingly, Vålerenga is on a four-game winning streak and 12–5 in goal difference. The opposition may have been on the easier end of the spectrum, but the game is getting better and better. Against Bryne, Enga played the shoes off the opponent in the first half, before the intensity dropped after the break and they conceded.

Nevertheless, we believe the Blues will have a very tough time away from home in Bergen. Enga will have to withstand the opening pressure and especially the pressure on the wings from Brann.

Conclusion –

Everything is set for a heated rivalry match where the first 20 minutes will set the tone. Brann will probably go straight for the throat with high pressure, width from the backs and clear wing play. Vålerenga comes with confidence and rising form, but must survive the opening storm to get their transitions into play. We expect an even and intense match – but at Brann Stadion we believe the Bergen team will pull the longest straw.
Based on form and statistics, we play the following:

Eliteserien at 18:00: Brann – Vålerenga: Both teams to score + 2.5 goals (1.79)
