Analysis of the teams

The international break is over, and we enter the final phase of Serie A. There are ten games left before a winner is crowned, and we finally get to see how the final table shapes up. Both of these teams have had solid performances so far and are in positions where they have a lot to play for.

For Atalanta, it's about a new chance in the Champions League next season, and even though they're six points behind Inter, I refuse to believe they've given up on their Scudetto dream. Inter won the last match between the teams before the international break, which increased the pressure on Gasperini's men.

Fiorentina, on the other hand, are fighting for a place in European play next season. They are currently in 8th place and need to climb to challenge the teams above them. With many strong competitors around them, it will be a tough match all the way. Serie A is in an exciting phase, and this weekend's match is no exception.

Fiorentina – Flow and finesse in Florence

The team from Florence showed solid form before the international break, and the match against Juventus in particular was impressive. They won 3-0 at home and showed deadly efficiency with three shots on goal and three goals, despite an xG of just 0.39. This is evidence of a team that knows how to exploit their chances. Earlier in the season, they also beat Roma and Inter at home with convincing results.

One of the key players is of course the team's top scorer, Moise Kean. With 15 goals this season, he has been a sensation and continued his scoring form during the international break, scoring twice for Italy against Germany. He will be crucial in Fiorentina's attacking play.

Another important player is loaned midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who has been central to Fiorentina's midfield. Against his parent club Juventus, he provided two assists and had a brilliant game.

Under Raffaele Palladino's leadership, Fiorentina have found a unique style of play. At first glance, it looks like a classic 3-5-2 formation, but their offensive approach is unique. Defensively, they run a man-to-man strategy, where players each mark their opponent high up the pitch. This means they often win the ball in favorable positions, which creates good counterattacking opportunities. At the same time, this strategy can be risky - one mistake in marking can create large spaces for the opponent.

Offensively, it's all about quick ball movement, overlapping wing-backs and lots of players in the box. This aggressive style has paid off - Fiorentina have scored 10 goals in their last five games.

Atalanta – In search of the top

Gian Piero Gasperini's men have had a strong season and are well positioned for European competition next season. Although the league title seems difficult to achieve, they are still in the fight.

In their last match before the international break, Atalanta suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Inter. As if that wasn't enough, midfield general Ederson was sent off after 81 minutes and will miss the weekend's game. It was a disappointing end to the break, especially after the impressive 4-0 away win against Juventus the previous round.

In addition to Ederson's suspension, Atalanta will be without their star striker and league top scorer Mateo Retegui, who is out with injury. Although the team has several offensive weapons, his absence will be felt.

Fiorentina's high defensive line could be beneficial for Atalanta, however. Players like Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere could be given ample space to run in behind the defence. Interestingly, Atalanta uses a similar defensive approach to Fiorentina, with a high line and man-to-man marking. The aim is to win the ball high up the pitch and punish the opposition on quick transitions. This has resulted in Atalanta scoring 10 goals in their last five matches.

However, they are not always as effective. Looking back at the match against Venice, it ended 0-0, but Atalanta had an xG of 1.94 and wasted six big chances.

Therefore, we believe there will be some goals

The last three meetings between these teams have all ended with five goals, which is a testament to the high-scoring and intense matches. Both teams play direct football with high intensity, and the match often fluctuates back and forth. The question is how Fiorentina will deal with Atalanta's offensive qualities - and whether Atalanta will be able to stop a fiery Moise Kean.

With this in mind, I think history will repeat itself, and we will have an entertaining and goal-filled match.
