It was yet another top-notch showdown in the final of the Elite16 Saquarema (Brazil) last weekend (April 9-13), where Anders Mol and Christian Sørum faced their well-known rivals David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig. The Norwegian sand kings delivered the goods and secured a solid 2–0 victory – a perfect start to the 2025 season. It was worth noting that Jonatan Hellving played with an injury to his left hand at the end of the tournament.

In the bronze medal final, the tournament's big surprise, Pedro Augusto Sousa de Oliveira and Renato, who had impressed all week after fighting their way into the main round via qualification, faced the experienced Dutch pair of Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot, who were coming off an intense semi-final against David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig – a match in which they had three match points, but ultimately had to give up in a thriller. In the match for third place, Boermans and de Groot fought back hard. With solid control from start to finish, they secured the bronze medal with a convincing 2–0 victory over the Brazilian pair.

Worth knowing: During the first match of Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen against Marco and Esteban Grimalt, we had an unusual and dramatic moment when Hendrik Mol suddenly started digging in the sand by the net. After landing from a block, Mol felt something hard under his foot – and it turned out to be an iron bar just below the surface. The situation could have had serious consequences, but fortunately Mol escaped unharmed. Such a discovery in the middle of the court is a rarity.
