Analysis Information
Mid-table in battle
Celta Vigo hosts Athletic Club in an interesting battle where both teams are chasing important points in La Liga. Athletic are ahead in the table, but there are only four points separating the teams. The home team has started to show signs of life after a difficult autumn, while Athletic is coming off a difficult away season and is looking for stability. A match with a small margin and great potential – especially for a Celta team that is now chasing its first home win of the season.
Celta Vigo – Good performances, not results
After a weak start, Celta have started to collect points. The away win against Real Madrid was a warning sign – the team is not done yet. Under Claudio Giráldez they have gained more structure at the back and a clearer plan in attack. However, Balaídos has not been a safe place so far, with many draws and still no win. But the opponents have been strong, and the performances have been better than the results.
Offensively, the team is still carried by Aspas and Borja Iglesias. The latter has been a boost, both in play and goal production. At the same time, it is in organization and transitions that Celta has improved the most – they appear more united and balanced, and are able to control the game better than earlier this fall. The loss against Espanyol at home was a setback, but it will provide motivation to fight back now.
Athletic Club - Lacks players, lacks stability
Athletic are a team that can beat anyone, but also struggle with consistency. At their best, they are compact, disciplined and difficult to break down. At their worst, they are harmless and uncreative. There have been many such away games this autumn. Although the team has several strong personalities and great work capacity, they lack a clear match winner in the offensive.
Defensively, they have lost a lot in the absence of Laporte, and several key players have been out for periods. This makes them vulnerable against teams that are able to take the initiative and who dare to play directly. With a fairly poor attack and a defense that is not as compact without its regulars, Athletic have shown signs that they can struggle in matches where they have to control the pace and rhythm.
Conclusion – Self-confidence against injury problems
This will be a close and physical match, but Celta come into it with confidence and an increasingly well-functioning team. They have been solid at home, even without winning – and now they face an away team Athletic with injury problems and little attacking power. Draw No Bet on Celta Vigo provides good coverage if it ends in a draw, while also providing value if the home team gets paid for the development we have seen in recent weeks. This is a spot where Celta can step up, and we think they will do just that.
