The farmers from Jæren have already welcomed the 'fiffen from Østlandet' to Jæren's most beautiful turf through social media (if you haven't seen that video yet, it's recommended!) This is a match that both teams are very much in favor of winning and anything other than 3 points for any of the teams here would strictly be disappointing. Both teams know they have a victory in them, where a small advantage is given to Bryne with their form curve and home field. It always takes a little getting used to going from artificial turf to grass, and legs can quickly get tired at the end, especially if the weather turns out as predicted. Jone Wiig has promised turnips to Bryne's best! Whether Vålerenga's best will get the latest Porsche or new Rolex is unknown... We still have a good match ahead of us here!
Bryne – A season as expected, where Bryne Stadium will be their lifeline
Bryne has had exactly the type of season they envisioned: points at home (3-1-2 and PPG 1.67) and grueling matches away (1-2-3 and PPG 0.83), but now stands with 6 straight without a loss. No coincidences in other words and Bryne knows that it is at home that the points must be taken to stay in the Eliteserien and build on the team. Then the match against Vålerenga will be one of the matches they both believe in, and know they can win. Bryne follows Vålerenga closely in the table and has the same number of points - although with one match less played. They have scored a little more, but also conceded a little more. In this respect, these teams match man-for-man. Bryne's form curve is somewhat better, where they are 2-3-0 in the last 5 with a 10-8 goal difference, against Vålerenga's 2-1-2 and 7-6 goal difference. It is noticeable that both teams have scored in all of the last 5 matches.
De Boer was sent off early against KFUM and is out for this match. The same goes for Svindland, but he hasn't had much of an impact on this year's Bryne team either. Apart from that, Bryne is in top form and is more than ready to take on an Enga team that knows this will be a tough nut to crack. Bryne Stadium is mostly filled, including the gang sitting on a sofa in the tractor drawer, so the atmosphere shouldn't be bad. In addition, beautiful weather is forecast, so if nothing else, the gang from the capital should feel it in their legs on the grass at Bryne. In addition, when Bryne's best get a turnip from Jone Wiig - then it should be enough to send Vålerenga home empty-handed!
Vålerenga – Good at home, better away
Vålerenga has a tendency to be "hyped" before the start of the season. Several media outlets (including us at 90MF) believed that Vålerenga could surprise this year – perhaps even be the positive surprise of the season. They have in no way lived up to that.
What is positive, however, is that the club itself says they are about where they expected to be before the season started. Vålerenga has announced that they are aiming for mid-table, and that they would be happy with 35–40 points – given the squad they have. If we look at the points they have collected so far, they have 15 points in 13 games. That gives an average of 1.15 points per game. If they maintain that average for the rest of the season, they will end up with around 35 points.
Vålerenga has been better away from home this year – which unfortunately brings back some unwanted memories from 2023. Away they are 3–1–3 and have a goal difference of 8–7 (1.15 PPG), while at home they are 1–2–3 and have a goal difference of 9–12 (0.83 PPG).
A small bright spot is that Vålerenga have scored in six of their seven away games. They have also produced a number of corners – with an average of 5.43 per away game. At the same time, they have conceded a similar number of corners to their opponents, with an average of 5.57 corners conceded. In total, 71% of their away games have gone over 9.5 corners.
The positive thing is that we think Vålerenga have played better after the summer break than they did before. They have got back a very exciting player in Filip Thorvaldsen, who is creative and can cause problems for any opponent.
At the same time, they have struggled at the back with some hopeless mistakes in their defensive play – which has cost them dearly. An example is the away game against Tromsø: Vålerenga equalized, but only 68 seconds later Tromsø went up 2–1 after a serious defensive blunder.
When it comes to card statistics, Vålerenga has received an average of 2 yellow cards per away match, while the opponent (home team) has received 1.71. Bryne, who is the opponent in this match, has an average of 1.83 yellow cards at home, while the away teams have only received an average of 0.67
Conclusion – We think both teams will find their way to the net here
Everything is set for an even and open match at Jæren, between two teams that both need and expect points. Bryne have been solid at home and scored in all five of their last matches – and with an enthusiastic home crowd behind them, they will go out on the offensive here. Vålerenga, on the other hand, have actually been better away from home and have found the net in six of seven away matches this season.
Both teams have shown clear defensive weaknesses, while also having attacking players who can punish mistakes. When we also see that both teams have scored in their last five matches, everything points towards an entertaining match with goals both ways.
Due to form, statistics and match picture, it strongly suggests that both teams will score, so today's game will be;
Norway 14:30: Bryne – Vålerenga: Both teams to score (1.69)
Games being considered:
- Under 2.5 goals (2.00)
- Over 9.5/10.5 corner: (1.65/2.00)
- Bryne/Vålerenga over 4.5 corners: 1.65/1.60
