Analysis Information
We are going to Monitor ERP Arena in Gavle, when Brynas takes on Vaxsjø for a game in the SHL. The regular season is coming to an end, and there are only 4 games left.
Brynas has surprisingly been the best team so far this season. The team was promoted from Hockeyallsvenskan the year before. So the fact that this team would be leading so clearly before the last games must be something most people had not imagined.
Vaxjø, on the other hand, who finished 2nd in the SHL last year, has performed far below what most expected of this team, as they are 9th. If these two teams had swapped places, it would have been more in line with pre-season expectations.
Brynas IF – The journey continues.
Brynas has taken the positive form from Hockeyallsvenskan last year with them, and continues in the same way in the top league. The SHL is supposed to be a step up from the division below, but it seems that Brynas has forgotten that. It is rare to see a team reach this level directly, and they are actually in a position to win the regular season superbly.
Many thought the team had lost it a few games ago, when they lost 3 out of 4 games. Several with weak results. But the team has recovered nicely, and is back on track with two straight wins. The away win against the in-form team Frølunda in particular was convincing.
They also have a lot of statistics that support why they are where they are. They have scored the second most goals of all teams, and conceded the second least. Solid things. They have the opportunity to top both the home and away statistics. This indicates that the team has few weaknesses. Jakob Silfverberg in particular has been good. The old NHL star, with over 10 years behind him in the Anaheim Ducks, has delivered the goods from the first drop. He is in 4th place overall in the points statistics, and has added that little extra offensively to this team. Not many games go by without this player having his name among the names that pick up points.
We believe the team will continue, ensuring victory in the regular season, which in turn will mean important ranking heading into the playoffs.
Vaxjø Lakers – A team we can't figure out.
Vaxjø has had a strange season. Before the season, they were tipped by many to be right up there. But extended bad periods have led to them being as far down as number 9. Positions 7-10 give them a playoff spot, and they will almost certainly be within that position.
They also have the opportunity to climb into the top 6. But then most things have to work out at the end. We don't get this team. When they have performed poorly for a period, they suddenly bounce back with a win against some of the top teams. At other times, they get some great wins against the top teams, but manage to lose many games that most expected them to win. If we look a little behind the results, there is one thing in particular that stands out. It is the ability to score goals. They have scored the second least of all teams this season, and only Malmö, who has scored 1 goal less, is behind in that statistic. Defensively, it looks somewhat better, and there are actually only 4 teams that have conceded more goals. We still think they will have a tough time in this one, when they meet the team that scores the second most, and concedes the second fewest.
3 wins and 3 losses in the last 6 is not all that great in terms of form, and 2 of the wins have also come in overtime. Looking at individual players, we find their best point picker, Dylan McLaughlin, all the way down in 67th place. As most people probably know, it is important at the end of the season that the big players step up and perform. But we really doubt whether they have enough quality.
Conclusion – The train rolls on.
After Brynes is back on track, we believe they will continue to roll. There is a good atmosphere in the team, and they are simply a more complete team than Vaxjø.
Internal matches from this season show that Vaxjø was the best early, and Brynas is the best late. The last match Brynas won 2-5 away. The match before that they won 4-3 after overtime, but lost the first one 3-0. This development has continued.
We therefore believe the home team will win this one. We get such good odds at home on the league leader against the team that is number 9, that it would be foolish not to try. We therefore go for the following bet.
Hockey at 19:00: Brynas IF – Vaxjø Lakers: Brynas IF wins (2.05)
