"Aspmyra is not just a stadium – it's a statement. Here you get wind, artificial turf and a team that knows exactly who they are. That's why Bodø/Glimt not only survives in Europe – they leave their mark."

Bodø/Glimt has created something truly unique on European home turf in recent years. From a 6-1 win against Roma to solid performances against international opponents such as Celtic, AZ Alkmaar, and Dinamo Zagreb – Aspmyra has become a place where even football giants struggle to find a foothold. And that is precisely where I believe I have found value.

But why are Glimt so good at home in Europe?

The Aspmyra effect – Weather, substrate and atmosphere

Bodø is something completely different from San Siro or Camp Nou. The wind can come sideways, the rain whips, and the temperature is rarely like what they are used to further south in Europe. The artificial turf is fast, precise and something many European teams are simply not used to.
Add a compact stadium, enthusiastic fans and an opponent who is often in the final stages or in the winter break of their own league – and you have a home team that knows every gust of wind, and an away team that has to orient itself in unfamiliar terrain.

Relational football – not accidental success

Kjetil Knudsen has created a team that plays a type of football that is rarely seen at this level in the Nordic countries. It's all about relationships, spatial awareness and a high tempo in ball and movement.
This makes Glimt extremely difficult to face, especially for teams that don't have time to prepare thoroughly. The fast rhythm and precise positioning means that Glimt often gain control – and the opponent is left running in between.

Intensity and structure – total collective discipline

Glimt chases, presses and runs more than most. But it's not just raw intensity - it's controlled chaos. The pressure is put in the right place. The recoveries happen in zones that allow attacks to be launched immediately, and often when the opponents are off-balance. They play like a coordinated machine. And that creates trouble for European teams who are often used to their opponents lying low and waiting. Glimt always comes out at 100 and goes straight for the throat.
Another important factor is that many of the players have been in the system for a long time, and everyone knows their role in the team. Then it doesn't matter so much that some profiles disappear out the door because the system is in place anyway. New players are formed in the pattern, and you get quality that fits in, not just big names. They believe in what they do and it spreads out on the field.

European respect – but not fear

Glimt enter Europe with a different attitude than many other Scandinavian teams. They don't look at the big European clubs with awe. They believe – quite sincerely – that they can dominate, even against bigger names. And that belief is shown in their performances.
When they play at home at Aspmyra, it's with confidence, rhythm, and a clear identity. And it pays off.

So how has their journey been leading up to these two quarter-final matches against Lazio?

At home at Aspmyra they have played 6 matches and are 5-0-1 and a whopping 17-8 in the goal record, and we are not talking about unknown teams in a European context. 3-2 against Porto, 2-1 against Besiktas, 5-2 against Twente and 3-0 against Olympiakos. And this shows a clear indication that at home in front of their own supporters Bodø/Glimt thrive extremely well, and where they may have had a good starting point from the home meeting before, but where they managed to mess it up in the away matches, I think that this Glimt team has learned its lesson after many seasons in Europe, and now they are much better at controlling the matches on the away field. They have understood that if they are to get far in these tournaments, you have to adapt to the tough away matches. People do not understand how high the level has become in international top football these days, so that we are so lucky to have a Norwegian team when it comes to the Europa League, we just have to pay tribute to that.
In the domestic series, the first 2 games have ended with a full pot and 6 points, and even though it was ONLY 0-1 away against Bryne, on a field where you could put potatoes, there is something rock solid about this Glimt team. They take every game equally seriously and even though it may be a little against them, they are faithful to the system and they tip the margins in their favor almost every single game.

What about Lazio?

The guests from Italy will probably come here with a lot of respect for the home team because we are not going back any further than 2022 when the teams last met here in a match that ended with a 2-1 win for Bodø. So the guests are not going to take this task lightly, and they know that if Bodø gets their game going, it could be a tough trip back to Italy before the return match.
They come here after a strong away win against Atalanta (0-1) and they are just outside the top 4 in Serie A, and in addition they have in mind that the next league match is at home against arch-rivals Roma, just 3 days later. So here they will probably try to get away as cheaply as possible due to injuries and tired legs. So maybe we will see a very defensively oriented Lazio in Bodø this Thursday evening?

They come in here after 4-0-1 in their 5 away matches in the Europa League so far and with a 10-3 goal record it shows a team with a solid defensive structure, where they rarely miss many chances even when playing away. But if we look at the last 5 matches in all competitions they have only one win against Atalanta, as well as 3 draws and a horrible 5-0 loss against Bologna, so they will definitely have to reach their peak level here if they are not to be sent home with their tail between their legs.

Conclusion

Considering that these are quarter-finals in the second most prestigious tournament in Europe and that Bodø/Glimt have to get a result here, I am almost certain that this will be a very entertaining match for those of us who will watch the match on TV.
Bodø have beaten them before and since then they have become even better, and with a Kasper Høgh who looks lighter and more dangerous than ever up front, together with Jens Petter Hauge and Ole Blomberg. So I can't help but tip in favor of Bodø Glimt.

Europa League at 18:45 Bodø/Glimt – Lazio: Bodø/Glimt over 1.5 goals (2.55)

Alternative games:

We cross our fingers and wish all of Bodø good luck
