Analysis Information
Injury crisis characterizes the star meeting
First up, the stage is set for a big match in the Champions League when FC Barcelona host Paris Saint-Germain. Both teams have strong qualities and were considered favorites for the final last year, but the level of the stars has been reduced after several important injuries. The injury list has become the main topic ahead of the match, and influential players such as Raphinha and Marquinhos are absent, while the Ballon d'Or rivalry between PSG's newly crowned winner Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona's youngster Lamine Yamal provides additional backdrop. Barcelona have also been in impressive form and are undefeated this season.
Barcelona: Solid form and injury problems
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has led the team into a good form curve. The team is unbeaten in the league (six wins in seven games) and tops La Liga with 19 points, one ahead of Real Madrid. At home, Barcelona won all of their matches in last year's CL group stage, and under Flick's leadership, the team has had a lot of possession and attacking play as a focus. Veteran Robert Lewandowski remains the team's most dangerous striker - he has scored many of the goals and is registered with 105 Champions League goals in total. Midfield creators such as Pedri and De Jong and the lightning-fast Lamine Yamal on the right wing are crucial for the offensive game. Lamine Yamal is now ready to start again after injury, and came on as a substitute in the meeting with Real Sociedad at the weekend.
The starting lineup is expected to follow a 4-2-3-1 formation. Alejandro Balde is out, so a left-back combination with Gerald Martin and Araujo seems likely. The defense is strengthened with fresh replacements in goal; veteran Wojciech Szczesny guards the net since Joan Garcia is still injured. Lamine Yamal on the right wing, flanked by Dani Olmo and Marcus Rashford around Lewandowski up top, could provide the punch in attack.
The big issue is the injury situation in the squad. Barcelona is without several key players: Raphinha, goalkeeper Joan García, midfield talent Gavi, Fermin López and Ter Stegener are all out of action . In addition, Balde is still doubtful. These absences are causing Flick difficulties, and they are being replaced with young players. The injury problems have characterized Hansi Flick's press conference: he says that the number of injuries is high, but that the team must adapt and come back stronger
Paris Saint-Germain: Injuries and more injuries
Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain emerged from last year's season as Champions League winners, but are now without big names. The injury situation is serious: Manager Luis Enrique will have to do without his Ballon d'Or-winning star Ousmane Dembélé and other attacking players such as Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Captain Marquinhos is also missing, so the defense is hit hard. In midfield, Portugal duo Vitinha and João Neves are more positive, they are in the squad and have played back from injuries. PSG's attack will therefore likely rely on young home-grown players such as Bradley Barcola, who showed potential in the summer, as well as strikers Kang-In Lee and Gonçalo Ramos.
Tactically, PSG will play in a typical Luis Enrique 4-3-3 formation, with an emphasis on high ball possession and quick passing. As he himself points out, Barcelona and PSG share the same playing style and philosophy – the match is often decided by which team is able to keep the ball the best. On the wing, there will be an extra battle for the ball: Barcelona's Yamal, who finished second in the Ballon d'Or behind Dembélé, against Nuno Mendes on the left wing of PSG. Achraf Hakimi has stated that N. Mendes "is the best left-back in the world" and an important tool for PSG in stopping Yamal.
In defense, Lucas Chevalier is likely to lead the way, with right-back Hakimi and stoppers Zabarnyi and Pacho alongside him. On the left, Nuno Mendes is again first choice. The midfield is dominated by Ruiz, Vitinha and the Vitinha. Up front, Barcola is on one wing and Kam-In Lee on the other, with Gonçalo Ramos in the striker role.
PSG started the Champions League season strongly with a 4–0 win against Atalanta and will probably want to continue this against Barcelona. With a 5–0–1 start to Ligue 1, they are number one in the table (shared with Lyon). Injury problems have cost them points; the loss to Marseille came right after the previous Champions League round. Luis Enrique has a smile on his face after all, and reminds us that no team is injury-free in a hectic season.
Conclusion: Who gets something to celebrate in the hospital room?
The match between Barcelona and PSG is therefore characterized by many absences and uncertainty about available key players. Barcelona appears to be a compact team in good shape after crushing Real Sociedad and taking the lead in the series. PSG lacks creative support from the outside, but does not lose its main goalscorers initially. The match will probably offer goal chances for both teams, although it may be more controlled than expected. Barcelona has the advantage of home court and will probably control much of the game. PSG will provide strong midfield and wing play, and can punish any counterattack opportunities.
Based on all available information, the home team is clearly the favorite. Hansi Flick's men have been in superior form and are expected to win against Paris.
We therefore play;
Champions League at 21:00: Barcelona - Paris Saint-Germain: Barcelona to win (1.83)
