A new season is over. A new Champions League winner has been named. A new participant has had their name immortalized in the Hall of Fame. Four weeks of excitement, fun and drama. But the title "Norway's Best Oddstipper" is only on borrowed time. Who will win next season?
From Sandnes to Schalke
New this year is that we want to highlight those who win the top division. The idea behind our betting competition was to highlight everything that lives in our community. And the person who ends up at the top really deserves to be listened to.
This time it was Anders Meihack. The man from Sandnes, with a heart for Schalke, is known to most as a Bundesliga expert. And there is much evidence that it was that knowledge that sent him all the way to the top. But first; we have to ask the question that all sports journalists ask after a goal pass;
"What do you feel now?"
"That 2026 starts strong!", Anders answers. Short and concise. And he's right. Winning the Champions League on the fifth day of the year is not everyone's destiny. But we dig a little deeper;
"But seriously; you were the best of them all. Just having 75% hits. Impressive. What's the recipe for success?", we ask, and fortunately he shares his thoughts with us;
"I primarily focus on the leagues I follow most closely. Once I've gone over all the matches, I choose my favorite," he explains.
Moderate risk, moderation and knowledge
We don't give up. Once we have a knowledgeable oddsmaker on the line, we want more, and so we try a new approach;
"I see you're pretty stable in terms of odds. From 1.68 to 1.80. Is this a conscious strategy?" we try, hoping to uncover something groundbreaking.
"Yes, if you go lower than that, you rarely find good value. And anything over 1.80 I consider a bit too risky," he answers, and we recognize ourselves in the description. But there must be more to be gained? After all, the man has delivered brilliant numbers over the last four weeks.
"What do you mostly bet on? Which games, which sports, and which leagues?" we wonder.
"It varies from marking to x number of goals and corners. Occasionally maybe card games too. I only bet on football and only in Germany, England and Norway," Anders answers with credibility. And we note that he limits himself to what he can do, and does not let himself be guided by impulses.
"Do you have any tips for the rest of us who haven't won the Champions League yet?" we ask, and we hear the desperation in our voices.
"Keep faith in your strategy, even if it may backfire at times. If you have set a strategy that you can defend, there is no reason to deviate from it. If there are losses week in and week out, you may need to reconsider or adjust the strategy," he explains, before continuing;
"Research as carefully as you can before placing a bet. Check the statistics and form of the teams. I don't care much about history, but the type of match (derby for example) plays a role. Select 2-3 of the games you believe in the most. Stick to what you bet on, don't chase losses and remember; pre-bankroll to have control. I would rather bet a larger amount on a few matches instead of mini amounts on a bunch of matches. Then I only play on single matches, with an absolute maximum of 3-combo, then preferably with lower odds in matches I have strong faith in. These 5-way, 8-way etc. are lottery in my eyes", he concludes. And we believe him.
A competition by players, for players
Our betting competition, which you can read more about here , consists of four-week seasons, where you move up/down at the end of each season. All players control everything from their private dashboards, and you can easily register here . But before we finish, we had to check with Anders about what he thinks of us;
"Thank you for being a part of the betting competition, and for being part of the 90minutefamily. Why should more people join the competition, and why should more people check out our website?"
"This is a really nice addition to the weeks with lots of matches to choose from. The 'seasons' last for 1 month, so there's a lot of competition. If you like competition, this is really nice!", he says, before continuing;
"More people should definitely check out the website for daily tips in all kinds of sports - the selection is huge! The tips are carefully reviewed and can save you a lot of time in researching yourself. Here you can find games, research for yourself, knowing that more people are thinking along the same lines with good games and good value."
We blush, thank him and wish Anders good luck, while also wondering who we will interview in four weeks?
