Allegiant delivered a performance for the history books when the super filly won the Elitloppet at Solvalla on Sunday. With Örjan Kihlström in the sulky, the five-year-old flew to the lead from track seven and never gave her competitors a chance.
The pace was insane throughout, with 1:04.7 for the first 500 meters and 1:06.0 after the kilometer. Nevertheless, Allegiant kept the pace all the way and stopped the clock at an incredible 1:07.1 – a new world record.
Coach Daniel Redén was in shock after the triumph.
– It feels completely unreal. She is a fantastic horse, said Redén after the race.
Örjan Kihlström also struggled to understand the performance.
– We thought she could run fast, but this is absolutely extreme, said the winning rider.
After several years of French dominance, this time there was Swedish cheering at Solvalla, and Allegiant delivered one of the most impressive Elitlopp performances ever.
